heusy68
Hello Gentlemen,in recent topic there was an enquiry about the total lack of information about Mozambique. I cannot help much, but luckily some years ago I bought from a portuguese philatelist stamps from Mozambique with pictures of 4 Orders & Medal. Here you can see what looks like the Ordem Amizade & Paz (Order of Friendship & Peace). It is hung on a narrow chain (first picture is President of Portugal & President of Mozambique respectively wearing Order of Amizade & Paz & Order of St Yago). If anyone have a better picture,he is most welcome. Emmanuel
heusy68
The second highest Order of Mozambique seems to be Order of Eduardo Mondlane who was a Hero of the struggle for Independence and first president of FRELIMO.Actually Order of Eduardo Mondlane is the highest award for mozambican citizen. This Order exist in 3 classes. In january 2005 President Chissano awarded the former Prime Minister Pascoal Mocumbi the Order of Eduardo Modlane 1st degree. On same ceremony 4 Order of Eduardo Modlane 2nd degree were awarded to Transport Minister Tomas Salomao,Environment Minister John Kachamila, the chairperson of the Mozambican Parliement Eduardo Mulembue & Governor of the Bank of Mozambique Adriano Maleiane. On the same day 10 others members of the Government were awarded Order of Eduardo Mondlane 3rd degree incl Defense Minister Tobias Dai It is interesting to note that same day President Chissano awarded Order of Socialist Labour 1st degree to 7 others person (for which there was no stamp issued with picture). Any info on ribbon is much welcome. Emmanuel Edited May 16, 2010 by heusy68
heusy68
In 2003 I downloaded this document from the web. It's a copy of the award document of Eduardo Mondlane 1st degree to Maria de Lurdes Mutola, who was the first mozambican citizen to won a Gold Olympic Medal in Olympic Games in Sydney in summer 2000.She ran the 800 meters. She already got a Bronze Medal ,also on 800 meters in Olympic Games Atlanta in 1996. Here is first part of the document. heusy68
The Bagamoyo Medal was awarded posthumously in 1991 to a swiss doctor that was killed in the early 90ies in Mozambique. heusy68
Mozambique : Medal for the Veteran of national Liberation Struggle. Again no more info available, except that people who have been to Mozambique and have spoken to veteran of the liberation war and then after the civil war,got the info that no veteran were ever awarded this medal. So it might be that a few of these medals might have been struck and so a very few could have been awarded to "selected" veteran.... heusy68
The onliest medal I was ever able to get is this Medal of Independence of Mozambique. I guess it was worn on a pentagonal soviet style ribbon. It is 32 millimeters in diameter and was made by Bertoni of Milan. I got it for 6 US $ in South Africa and shipping cost was higher than the medal itself. If anyone has Medals & Orders of Mozambique or any others african & far east countries that I don't have yet, I'am ever happy to buy or barter. heusy68
Hello JDM and all others members. I have google picture of Samora Machel, and I found these. It's from a ceremony in Maputo in 1984.Sorry I have no idea what he wear..... Emmanuel
heusy68
This other picture of Samora Machel, alongside P.Botha during ceremony after signature of Komatipoort Agreement in october 1984. The Komatipoort Agreement was the treaty by which South Africa will stop to help RENAMO,and in return Mozambique would stop to help A.N.C. and expelled its leaders in exile in Mozambique. Samora Machel is wearing 3 unidentified decoration. Watch also what one of his "body guard" is wearing. Emmanuel
heusy68
Now a close-up on the medal worn by the person next to Samora Machel. It looks like it is the Medal of Veteran of the National Liberation Struggle, but picture is not good enough to say it is,or it is not..... Report from a south african fellow that had been witness to a veteran ceremony in the 1990ies,said that no one of these veteran was wearing a medal. But maybe that medal was only awarded to a selected number of veteran, mostly for "good political behaviour", rather than for bravery in combat. heusy68
To end with Mozambique today, here is an Order (said to be awarded to international fighter who helped Mozambique, ie cuban). This Order of good quality, and with a blank reverse was recently auctioned in Germany in a coins catalogue auction. It is not in my collection, but the owner was kind enough to let me examine this Order, and I host the picture. Again it's a very hard job to gather information on ODM of former portuguese colonies in Africa. Emmanuel

heusy68
Hello Gentlemen, yes at least 1 update. Recently a very good fellow send this photo to me (awarded to a President of Portugal). Ordem Amizade & Paz do Mozambique It seems it can be worn on the breast (from a pentagonal style ribbon) or from a collar (see first post of this topic).
