Gordon Williamson Posted April 3, 2005 Posted April 3, 2005 For those who like U-Boat Awards, here are a few early Tombak pieces.First, Schwerin, my least favourite of all. Some die cutter should have been sacked for producing such an awful looking eagle. Still, the quality of the actual badge, if not the design, is superb.
Gordon Williamson Posted April 3, 2005 Author Posted April 3, 2005 (edited) Next, a real treat for the eye, what I believe to be Juncker. This badge belonged to U-Boat commander Oberleutnant Heinrich Niemeyer. Interestingly I have the badge which belonged to another U-Boat commander, Kapit?nleutnant Reschke which is identical. Gordon Williamson Posted April 3, 2005 Author Posted April 3, 2005 Next, Hymenn, a design that for many years was written of as "fake" because it lacked a propeller/rudder. but is actually shown in period literature.
Gordon Williamson Posted April 3, 2005 Author Posted April 3, 2005 Paul Meybauer (L/13) This example belonged to Knight's Cross winner Max Teichert, commander of U-456
Gordon Williamson Posted April 3, 2005 Author Posted April 3, 2005 An unmarked and unidentified piece but bearing a very strong resemblance to the FO design.
Gordon Williamson Posted April 3, 2005 Author Posted April 3, 2005 If anyone is interested, I will add some "Zinkers"
J Temple-West Posted April 3, 2005 Posted April 3, 2005 Truely exceptional pieces, Gordon..I know that people rave on about 'Schwerin' being the best.... But, that 'Juncker'!!Sweet piece...Sorry for the interruption..
Guest Darrell Posted April 3, 2005 Posted April 3, 2005 Wow .. very nice Gordon ... keep 'em coming Here is my zinc GWL'er:
Gordon Williamson Posted April 3, 2005 Author Posted April 3, 2005 Okay, here are some Zinkers.First, Baqueville
Gordon Williamson Posted April 3, 2005 Author Posted April 3, 2005 Deumer, often erroneously referred to as late war Zink Schwerin.
Gordon Williamson Posted April 3, 2005 Author Posted April 3, 2005 Friedrich Orth, rarer type with segmented swastika
Gordon Williamson Posted April 3, 2005 Author Posted April 3, 2005 B H Mayer in Zink. Note the L.18 in zink is totally different to the L.18 in Tombak but both are absolutely 100% period originals.
Gordon Williamson Posted April 3, 2005 Author Posted April 3, 2005 L/53 marked zink version of the Hymenn badge.
Guest Darrell Posted April 3, 2005 Posted April 3, 2005 That is some selection alright. Amazing collection and great reference Gordon.
