tiwaz99 Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Hello Gents, Bought this nice little set last week, a soldbuch and some documents of Theodor Eisenhuth, who was on Komet's first cruise and later served on Sperrbrecher 18. If anyone can provide me more information about this Sperrbrecher, it is much appreciated.... Regards, Mark
tiwaz99 Posted January 27, 2011 Author Posted January 27, 2011 Soldbuch is issued 10th dec.1941 and signed by (which I believe) Komet's I.O. Korv. Kap. Josef Huschenbeth
tiwaz99 Posted January 27, 2011 Author Posted January 27, 2011 Awards page, EK2 awarded 3th July 1941 after exactly one year at sea, Hilfskreuzer-abzeichen awarded 1st Dec. 1941 after completing the first cruise and return in Hamburg, signed again by Huschenbeth. Minensucher-abzeichen awarded while serving with Sperrbrecher 18 of the 3th Sperrbrecher-Flottille.
tiwaz99 Posted January 27, 2011 Author Posted January 27, 2011 Some other documents while he was attached to Artillery Arsenal in Brunsbüttelkoog.
tiwaz99 Posted January 27, 2011 Author Posted January 27, 2011 With this grouping came also this fantastic post-war metal wall plaque....
Gordon Craig Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 tiwaz99, Very interesting grouping. Thanks for sharing with us. Regards, Gordon
hucks216 Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 (edited) Fantastic soldbuch - so rare to see one related to an Aux.Cruiser, especially with an Aux.Cruiser badge entry. The Feldpost Number in the stamp at the top of the awards page is 34510 which is for that time period... (Mobilmachung-1.1.1940) Minen-Hilfskreuzer 22, dann Handels-Schutzkreuzer 7, dann Schiff Nr. 45 - and Komet was indeed HSK 7 / Schiff 45. Edited January 27, 2011 by hucks216
tiwaz99 Posted January 28, 2011 Author Posted January 28, 2011 Thanks for your replies! Here a close-up of page 2, the same stamp that Hucks mentioned is found here and above the signature there is a vague stamp which shows 'Feldpostnummer M 34510'
hucks216 Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 (edited) There is some basic information/figures about Sperrbrecher 18 listed here... http://www.navypedia...r_conc_mdv2.htm ...and it mentions at the bottom of the listing - Sperrbrecher 18 was badly damaged by Allied aircraft 12/3/1945 at Hamburg and never repaired. hucks216 Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 And here is some basic information about 3 Sperrbrecherflotille which Sperrbrecher 18 belonged to... http://www.axishistory.com/index.php?id=8783
Paul R Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Most excellent grouping. I am surprised to see a swastika on the plaque.
Martin W Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 (edited) Great grouping from a Komet crewman and i really like that postwar plaque, excellent. It not only includes the names of the other HK's but also the names of the ships that the Komet sank or captured. After going through the many files i have on the Komet, including the ships log and "tons" of postwar Kameradschaft documents,i noticed that Theodor Eisenhuth's name came up quite often. One document mentions that he was born in 1920 and i found this 1998 Kameradschaft document that shows his age as 78. it is nice to be able to put a face behind the name of the crewman,i think. I wonder if he is still alive? Regards,Martin. Edited January 29, 2011 by Martin W
tiwaz99 Posted January 29, 2011 Author Posted January 29, 2011 Everyone thanks for the additional information....... Those postwar Kameradschaft documents must contain an enormous wealth of information for those who want to research these ships, is this 'Kameradschaft' still active? Don't know if Eisenhuth is still alive, I think there are only a few left now.... Regards, Mark
Martin W Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 is this 'Kameradschaft' still active? Hi Mark, The last Komet Kameradschaft letter i have in the file is dated 10-4-99. So,hard to say how many former Komet crewmen are still alive and if the "HK Komet Kameradschaft" is still active? Regards,Martin.
JSlavick Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Mark: What a great Soldbuch! Fantastic piece of history. Thanks for sharing. FYI: The last HK Komet Kameradschaft treffen was a small gathering of 7 or 8 Kometen in 2005. Joe Slavick
JSlavick Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 The last secretary of the HK Komet Kameradschaft was Herr Otto Schmidt. Joe
