kaguyahime
It will be interesing to note that type 4 badges in both classes have two variations of enamel colour. Here it is. Well known fact, that some of type 4 badges were made from alloy, not silver. Is there any sign or possibility to determine the metal visually if not to examine it? Thanks! JapanX
Well known fact ... Not to me To Peterson maybe... Indeed he wrote (p.87, 3rd edition) that "badges struck late in war are made of a cheaper alloy". Personally I've never seen these badges and don't know anyone who does. But one thing I know for a fact - badges that were issued "late in war" (I hope date January 20, 1945 will sound late enough) were struck in silver. Tell you the truth I don't know where James got this info ...
