Tradition badge for U-237. I just picked this up yesterday at our LA County twice-yearly militaria show. The seller is a well-known KM collector who said he originally purchased the badge still sewn on to a cap, but the cap was so moth-eaten that he had to throw it away. Fortunately, the badge survived...

    My 10 U-Flottille emblem. Size 33 mm X 20 mm

This one was found in Lorient in 1978 among artifacts from an old french FFI resistant who fought in Lorient in 1944/1945.

I think that it's french made one.

    Regards

    Ben

SO FAR this one and the emblem from U 380 are my favorites desings.

    Possibly U-858

Another great tradition badge, Fran?ois! I have a grouping from a U.S. sailor on the destroyer Escort USS Pillsbury who participated in U-858's surrender (as well as the U-505 capture and the sinking of U-515). Here is link to my posting of this group with photos and newspaper clippings of U-858's surrender. http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=22631

Here are some pictures of the tradition badge in wear from my grouping. The first is a detail shot (sorry it's blurry - that is how the photo is) with the U-858 badge and another tradition badge (perhaps U-154 or U-554)

    Possibly U-858

Here is as good a close-up as I could get on this group of U-858 crewmen wearing the cap badge. Looks like everyone had a tradition badge attached to their cap...

    Hello Fran?ois,

    really wonderful.

is it a drill on the backside of the U-363 badge used

    as a needle?

    Best regards

    Dear sirs,

a collector i know, offers me this item.

It could be from the 23-U.Flottilla I think.

Made out of white medal, 7cm long and

    1,5cm height(without needle).

Sorry the fotos don?t show the patina on the

    front and rear very well.

I never hold one like this in my hands.

    Please post your opinions.

    Best regards

    Hello Sto,

Your photo looks very similar to the artifact in my collection attributed to U-331, which was attached to the 23 U-Flottille from 15 Oct, 1941 - 14 Apr, 1942. I purchased this from Detlev Niemann several years back and I believe it to be a period-made cap badge mounted on a plaque.

    Best Regards,

    Erik

Here's a tradition badge for U-2538, a Type XXI boat. Although there is no provenance on this badge, it matches the description given by Oblt. Heinrich Klapdor in Georg H?gel's book (page 177).
