GreyC Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 (edited) Hi, got this photo recently and thought you might be interested. A Saxon soldier from Schützenregiment 108 with Friedrich August Medal in first place and EK II in second. Also VWA in black. The ribbons are worn Saxon style w triangular shape. Note Saxon belt buckle of Schützenregiment 108 with crown and "entangled" GG as worn since 1896 as I have been told. GreyC Edited November 6, 2017 by GreyC
ixhs Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 A nice pic. Sometimes you can find those saxon styled decorations. He wears the FAM bevor the IC - because of the saxon regulations. I have a pic with bavarians and one with a württemberger - the also are wearing trifold ribbons.
GreyC Posted November 7, 2017 Author Posted November 7, 2017 Hi ixhs, thank you for your comment. I´d love to see the Württemberg example, please post it! Thanks, GreyC
Dansson Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 I've noticed the Saxon mount isn't really an tri-fold like the Austrian ones. They're usually more like 5-edged in a similar shape of a tri-fold, but leaning more towards a pentagon.
Farkas Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 Hi GreyC, Gents i like the pic! I cant remember seeing EK ribbon showing sideways before. Even backwards it's vertical on a trifold unless tucked in....? are Saxon different please? Front - no hole Back open Tucked in .... design sideways tony
GreyC Posted November 8, 2017 Author Posted November 8, 2017 Hi Tony, I can´t help you there, I am afraid. GreyC

Thanks, GreyC Here are a couple of Württemberg examples. 13 hours ago, Dansson said: I've noticed the Saxon mount isn't really an tri-fold like the Austrian ones. Some examples: Here is a similar Saxon mounting from a Straube catalog: And a more straighforward trifold. It basically depends on where you fold it.
Dansson Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 (edited) Saxon pentagon fold on period picture. There's a link to a thread on this forum of a photo which shows the "traditional" or nationalist fold of Saxony. I recall having myself a single-mount EK2 on this type Saxon mount somewhere. GreyC Posted November 8, 2017 Author Posted November 8, 2017 Hi Dave and Dansson, thank you both for your contributions, very helpful. The Württemberger ribbon seems a bit "sloppy" with regard to shape of the ribbon, but the fold is discernable non the less. Also interesting the saxon pentagon fold as provided by link by Dansson. Here the color-stripes run vertical, not sideways as with mine. There seems not to have been any regulations to that end? GreyC

The photo was taken in bavaria. May be after the war, because of he is wearing his MVK3X after the IC. Edited November 9, 2017 by ixhs

GreyC I think these Württemberg versions are "sloppy" because they were simply a way of folding the ribbon for presentation, with the expectation that it would later be properly mounted on the recipient's medal bar. Dansson, you EK2 could have been to a Bulgarian as well as to a Saxon. A couple more Bulgarian examples that are even more pentagonal:
GreyC Posted November 18, 2017 Author Posted November 18, 2017 Hi Dave, thank you for pointing that out. GreyC
