dedehansen Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Hi Gentlemen, I got this CDV named with Ludwig Stauder, is it possible to find something about him? I believe he is wearing: - the cross for Important War actions - the Long Service Medal Kind regards Andreas
laurentius Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Dear Andreas, I do not have enough experience with Dutch medals (despite being Dutch), so I don't know if this man's career has been written down anywhere. That being said, there have been dozens of Germans serving in the Dutch East-Indies both before and after WW1. I have seen several pictures and medalbars, plus atleast one frackspange of German veterans. I think one of the Dutch collectors here has a frackspange with an EK2 and Military Order of William Kind regards, Laurentius
Herman Posted August 15, 2019 Posted August 15, 2019 dedehansen, you are correct. He indeed wears both Dutch medals. In the Dutch archives in The Hague there must be a file on him. He served at least for six years in the Dutch Indies to receive the Bronze Long service medal. Normally it was awarded after 12 years, but in the tropics the years counted double. He is wearing the medals in the wrong order by the way. Regards Herman
paul wood Posted August 17, 2019 Posted August 17, 2019 There were many German settlers in the Netherlands Indies. Most came as traders seeking their fortunes, gradually participating in all aspects of the colonies life. Paul
1812 Overture Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 The Aceh War: The war between the Aceh people of Indonesia in 1873 and 1903 against the Dutch colonial aggression. Aceh is located at the western end of Sumatra and has an important strategic position. Maybe this?
dedehansen Posted September 14, 2019 Author Posted September 14, 2019 Hi Gentlemen, thanks for the facts I didn´t know. Ludwig Stauder with König Ludwig-Kreuz and other medals, so post 1916. Kind regards Andreas
