Chris Boonzaier
Christophe managed to pull up the following.... "I have got Hauptmann Franz Sperr who was Adj AOk von Hindenburg. He received EH3aX on 9 November 1914. " I assume he was no longer in the Leib Regt when this was taken, was however still entitled to the uniform? Can anyone confirm it was Sperr? Thanks Chris
Bayern
Yes . his position as Adj OK von Hindenburg dont implied the wear of a Special uniform ,

ccj
Sperr appears to be a general staff officer.

He was already an Hauptmann i.G. before the war attached to the Prussian General Staff in Berlin. His former infantry regiment was 12. Infanterie-Regiment Prinz Arnulf and not the Leib-Regiment. Incidentally, he was executed as a member of the anti-Hitler resistance following the failed assassination attempt of July 1944 (23 Jan 1945) Regards Glenn
Deruelle
Hello, I have found another name Major Richard Verstl He received BMV4bX on 16 November 1914 He received EH3aX on 12 February 1916 He received BMV4aX on 24 April 1917. He was in KB GS. A good feeling on this one. The photo has been probably taken between February 1916 and March 1917 Christophe
Chris Boonzaier
Hi, Verstl has unfortunately no connection to the regiment ?
Deruelle
Hi Chris What about Major d.R. Otto Wilhelm SIMON. He was in the Leib Regiment in 1914 as Hauptmann d.R. Received EH3aX on 20 July 1915. I think it's your man Christophe Edited August 3, 2020 by Deruelle
Chris Boonzaier
Otto Theobald Wilhem Simon... I think you nailed it.... I suspected a pre war officer mobilized into another unit (here Brigade ersatz Batln Nr. 1), that is why he is not in the leiber book.... He was originally 2 b.I.R. then 1904 Hauptmann d. Lw, then 1907 Reserve officer of the Leib Regiment. Magic! Thanks
Glenn J
Chris, Christophe, I had already considered Herr Simon as a likely candidate. However, there is just one small problem: He was awarded the BMV4X with a CROWN (22 January 1915) which is not seen here?? Regards Glenn
Deruelle
Hi Glenn, I have just checked the Roth's book. Simon did received the crown but in16 March 1920. For me it's him Christophe
Glenn J
Hi Christophe, I agree! I misread the Militär-Verordnungsblatt. His initial award was just with swords. Regards Glenn
Deruelle
and an anonymous officer who's been given a name again. Nice overall search job.Now Chris has just to ask the Bavarian Archive about his personal file. That's it. Christophe
