Odd St George Cross anyone got the foggiest idea?

Amongst a collection of assorted Russian material, which contains some nice material, this wierd Cross of St George appeared. It seems to be made of German silver which would suggest a manufacture date of the second quarter of the 19th century. the ide with St George is as normal but the obverse instead of the usual monogram as a crowned CL monogram. I have racked my brains but have got Rockall, Shannon and Hebrides. Anyone with any thoughts?

Hiya, although this is not my area of knowledge I do know that this medal was issued before 1917 (tsarist era) and again since 1992 (Russian Federation).

Could this be a modern (1992) issue ???

This is a fake St.George Cross for non-christians.

OH OK. I don't collect those. I always thought that these were modern day Russian at George crosses

    Hello,

this is not related to Russia, but it's the lowest class cross of the Military Order (aka "Military Distinction") of St.George of the Duchy of Lucca so, to be classified amongst the "former Italian States". The crowned, "CL" Monogram is that of the Duke Carlo Lodovico.

The correct ribbon is white, with broad, red side stripes.

I hope this information would be of some help,

    best wishes,

    Enzo (E.L.)

    Enzo,

Funnily enough I have encountered several 1st and 2nd class enamelled badges of the Military Order of St George of Lucca in aristoctatic European homes but have never seen the silver cross before, I assume it must be quite rare.

    Best wishes,

    Paul

    Hello,

I'm more than happy that my little contribution to this discussion could have been of some help.

Paul: I'm not a hero; only, I live in Italy and the Orders of Lucca are part of our phaleristical heritage. But the mentioned drinks would be a great opportunity to meet again and discuss about Italy's ancient orders and decorations!

    All the best,

    Enzo
