03fahnen Posted December 8, 2021 Posted December 8, 2021 I recently bought this piece assembled the Spanish way. Any comments will be welcome. Is it possible that this Red Eagle Order was granted to a Spanish military man? It does not have any manufacturer's mark.
VtwinVince Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 Certainly appears to be a German-produced example awarded to a foreigner.
chuck Posted December 9, 2021 Posted December 9, 2021 Nice cross not sure it matches any of the listed examples. The Prussian Red Eagle Order - Eagle Design (medalnet.net) Regards, Chuck
03fahnen Posted December 15, 2021 Author Posted December 15, 2021 Thank you so much for your attention. It makes perfect sense that no two eagles are the same in a craft.
GdC26 Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 The clasp could be Spanish. Kind regards, Sandro
Graf Posted December 22, 2021 Posted December 22, 2021 Yes, the clasp looks Spanish, however it could be added later if the awarded person was Spaniard ..or by Spanish collector Interesting Cross indeed
03fahnen Posted December 22, 2021 Author Posted December 22, 2021 Again, thank you all for your interest. It is clear the assembly is in a typical Spanish pin, hence my doubt if a fourth class could have been granted to a Spanish. If it was mounted at the time or later by a collector we will never know. Only if a vintage photo appears with this medal.
Graf Posted December 23, 2021 Posted December 23, 2021 Enjoy it ! As you stated a vintage Photo or/and good provenance can answer the question Cheers

As already pointed out, it's not possible to say if this cross was worn like this, or altered by a Spanish collector. Depending on how you obtained it, though, I don't see too much reason to doubt the mounting's authenticity. Besides the literally tens of thousands to Prussian and other German recipients, there were certainly dozens, if not hundreds of these awarded to Spaniards - both military and civilians, by the way! 03fahnen Posted May 21, 2023 Author Posted May 21, 2023 Thank you very much Sashaw, As for the origin, I cannot know for sure. I bought it from a collector who told me that it came from the family of a Spanish officer who was attached to Germany at the time. (but this is a matter of faith)
