1812 Overture Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 Collectors, I recently browsed a group of bars with 40 year service medals of Bavarian firefighters, but I thought it was a little strange. Generally speaking, the fire medals I saw appeared together with 25 and 40, or the combination of Bavarian Kingdom Service Medals and 25 year Service Medals. This is the first time I saw a single medal. Does this medal meet the "standard"? Besides, what's the last medal? It seems to be related to agriculture. Please give your opinion! thank you 1
VtwinVince Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 I don't recognise the last medal, can you post close-ups?
chuck Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 Hi 1812, Looks like an agricultural association medal that has been attached to a ribbon. There is also one on e-bay for sale that states it is silver, 35mm wide at 17 gram. Bavaria, Kingdom. A Bavarian Agricultural Association Merit Medal - Medals - Bavaria - German States - Germany - Europe (emedals.com) v/r Chuck 1
scottplen Posted October 30, 2022 Posted October 30, 2022 I have one that’s silver . I have to dig it out .
scottplen Posted October 31, 2022 Posted October 31, 2022 Here’s the one I picked up in a group of loose medals . Know nothing about it . I’m guessing 1920s?
1812 Overture Posted October 31, 2022 Author Posted October 31, 2022 Eh.. Gentlemen, in fact, I mainly want to know whether the medal of 40 years of service in Bavaria Fire Service can be worn alone?
scottplen Posted October 31, 2022 Posted October 31, 2022 I think the last medal was a fire 25 year cross and was switched someone added farming medal ? 1

VtwinVince Posted October 31, 2022 Posted October 31, 2022 There are several possibilities for the last ribbon. And the official Bavarian Agricultural Merit Medal awarded during the war looks completely different from this medal.
padro Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 As I understand it the Fireman medals like the forty year one above didn't appear until the 1920's. Up until the end of WW1 the standard 25 year award, I believe, was a badge with a needle attachment. Here is a photo of one from my collection; The last ribbon is blue with white edge stripes which would suggest perhaps a twenty year Bavarian Red Cross award as Fireman crosses had white ribbons with either blue or red edge stipes. Either way it's a bit of a conundrum, thanks for showing. Regards Pete
VtwinVince Posted November 2, 2022 Posted November 2, 2022 Here is a bar with the Agricultural Merit Medal. 1
Farkas Posted November 3, 2022 Posted November 3, 2022 Hi 1812 The 40 year Long Service award in gilted bronze like yours was awarded between 1928 and 1936. As Padro said, the 25 year award was not a medal originally A medal was introduced in Nov 1918. A Different ribbon 👇 to your ribbon 4. And the post war 25 year medal if he claimed it years later or just added it, looked like this, a white edged ribbon 👇 So if he had no 25, he must have reached 25 years pre 1918 change. Therefore he reached 40 years no later than November 1933 unless his fire service was interrupted by the war and that delayed him? 1933 is within the period 1928 - 36. Your last medal is, i’m just guessing... The BAVARIAN 40 YEAR LOYAL INDUSTRY SERVICE MEDAL 👇 This was a Nazi era award introduced in 1938. Apparently not very common so understandable for it to be missing. Cheers tony 1
padro Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 Thanks Tony thats interesting, the Industry Service Medal is a new one on me, but I think what you say is correct. Seems very plausible, think you have cracked it. Regards Pete. 1
VtwinVince Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 Could also be the 25 year Industry Medal, which predates the Nazi regime. 1
Farkas Posted November 6, 2022 Posted November 6, 2022 For sure. The imperial 25&40 and the nazi 25&40 all used the same ribbon. I think one article said there was a 50 too. i guessed the nazi 40 because it’s scarcity makes it worth swapping out but could be either... tony
