Stogieman Posted March 20, 2023 Posted March 20, 2023 Does anyone know if Juncker made retired pilot badges? I’ve seen one with convincing details and marks but don’t remember ever seeing one before? Thanks!
CRBeery Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 Are you asking about the Fliers Commemorative Badge? If so they made at least three different types. Getting the old itch back?
VtwinVince Posted March 21, 2023 Posted March 21, 2023 They did indeed, I have an example with the reverse hardware removed for sewing on to the tunic.
Stogieman Posted March 21, 2023 Author Posted March 21, 2023 What do you think of this mark? Looks legit to me
VtwinVince Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 The marks look legit, what else is on the back?
Stogieman Posted March 22, 2023 Author Posted March 22, 2023 I’m unsure on the engraving but the rest of the badge looks right
Gensui Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 (edited) „24 years [old] and already retired. H.H.” Unusual text, but who would fake this sentence / engrave it later? BR, Chris Edited March 22, 2023 by Gensui
VtwinVince Posted March 22, 2023 Posted March 22, 2023 Good question, but the style of engraving is certainly not of the period.
lew Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 So everybody think this badge is ok? Isn’t it another common fake judging by for instance the shape of crown well?
bolewts58 Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 The normal word for pensioner is "Rentner". Although "Pensionär" isn't necessarily wrong, just less used, I think.
lew Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 (edited) Can you show a complete shut of the reverse? And the side of the eagle to see if it’s one piece or soldered. Edited March 23, 2023 by lew
VtwinVince Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 After seeing these images I have doubts about the entire badge. The shape of the wreath is weird, amongst other things.
lew Posted March 23, 2023 Posted March 23, 2023 Thanks for the additional photos, the badge is unfortunately a fake.
Stogieman Posted March 23, 2023 Author Posted March 23, 2023 Thanks for all the help, I’m very rusty and have lost access to all my archived images from my prior pieces
Beau Newman Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 The half moon shaped hinge well is generally not accepted as correct for Juncker badges.
VtwinVince Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 That's true, The hallmarks are the most convincing aspect of this badge.
Ferg1 Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 Here is an accepted Juncker example. Ferg For some reason the MM has been ground away leaving only the crescent and 800. I’ve seen this quite a few times on these commemorative Junckers and not sure why . Several of my examples are like this . Ferg
