    1. We have been there and done this one to death. Unless any startling new evidence emerges this topic is closed.
    2. Cheers Robin I thought as much. I did not even see it when I bought it I was more interested in the RAD and Kyffh?user pins, so was suprised when I found it in the bag. Not something you would let go so easily if original

      Luftwaffe Medal Bar

My latest medal bar. I have been looking for one for a while and literally just got this in time, as someone else was interested but like all good things was not cheap.
    4. I managed to aquire a mixed bag of stickpins whilst in Hamburg at the weekend. A nice little bunch some post war veterans pins as well as a few Third Reich era. Believe all to be OK, but reserve judgement on the SS pin which I didn't find in the bag until I got back to the hotel. Will post a few close up on some of the more interesting ones.
    5. I believe the medallions were made for purchase as a kind of triumphantalist commemoration medal. There were numerous designs to mark many of the early Nazi/Axis triumphs. As you would expect as the war progressed these medallions eventually faded out as victory turned to defeat.
    6. The order of precedence for Canada shows the Golden Jubilee Medal taking precedence over the Canadian Forces Decoration as well as the Long service medals and Centennial medal. Other campaign medals, UN, and NATO would take precedence as in the UK. It is most definitely the Golden Jubilee Medal.
    7. I am sure I have seen a photo of him wearing it in Munich at a Putsch Commemorative Ceremony ?
    8. That does not look like an UNMEE ribbon to me. That looks like the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal (Canada).
    9. Dick No offence taken, no need to apologise. We are both proud of our Naval Past as should be the other great sailing nations of the world Viz: France and Spain.
    10. You misconstrue me. I am talking about them as places to visit, it was not some cheap shot across the bows. HMS Victory is an amazing sight to visit. Do not get me wrong USS Constitution has an important place in Naval history and is the oldest warship afloat. It also makes for a very interesting tour. But you can't compare a frigate to a 1st Rate ship of the line, (which was also importantly Nelson flagship at Trafalgar). If you enjoyed USS Constitution all I will say is go and visit HMS Victory before making your mind up. As for 1812 war, well by that time, behemoths such as Victory were starting to be assigned to the scrap yard. The 1812 war certainly started to re shape Naval warfare and USS Constitution and other the Ironsides certainly seriously outgunned and outsailed their Royal Navy counterparts. It gave the Royal Navy a bloody nose on several occasions losing several ships, HMS Guerriere, HMS Macedonian, & HMS Java to name but three. But USS President, Chesapeake and Essex also met their match. But like the war of 1812 there are no winners in this game, so each to his own
    11. Hofschroer likes to to be controversial in his books on Waterloo, its how he sells them and had gained his reputation. I am not convinced by some of his arguments, they make for an interesting read, but I feel he is so biased towards the Prussians that some areas needed to be treated warily.
    12. More prefixes NZ New Zealand A Australia Anyone got a miniature Badge ?
    13. A trip to Paris may be in order next year me thinks !!
    14. Lord Ashcrofts collection of 140 or so VC's are now part of a trust fund that he has set up and will soon be going on public display in Britain.
    15. In the absence of a date it probably commemorates either her Golden or Diamond Jubilees ?
    16. You need to keep the size below 110kb per picture
    17. As today is the 201st Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar I thought I would post Nelson last entry in his diary before the battle commenced. Pretty humbling stuff.....
    18. Gentlemen An interesting debate which has been brought to my attention. I would ask that members are a little more tolerate of other personal opinion, healthy polite debate is a good thing. But I dislike post that have a clear undertones of a political or indeed even potentially a racist interpretation. Mr Zulus you remarks are bordering on offensive and is a clear breach of gentlemanly etiquette. I do not like ?them and us? comparisons and the categorization or stereotyping of people in terms of racial profile, is a rather odious concept which leads me to question your motivation.
    19. Definitely British Police. IP is Imperial (Indian) Police . Cap Badge is Kings Crown with a GR. Rank is (possibly assistant) District Superintendent. This is No 1 Dress. As for medal well it isn't an Royal Victorian Order....
