In the Brunswick officers casualty list of June 18,1815 - I found him (spelled with a Y) as severely wounded. A Cornet is a junior Leutnant Verluste der Offiziere am 18.Juni1815 Leutnant Niemeyer, von den Husaren, schwer verwundet

I will copy the entry and post it (apparently there are three Niemeier brothers serving in 1814 in the Hannover Army one as a medic)

There is a Niemeier mentioned as serving in the Braunschweiger Husaren in 1814 , but his first name is Eduard

In the award roll of the 1813 Iron Cross II. class - I found two recipients named Schmidt in the first 500 EKII awarded. One is a Wachtmeister the other a Feldwebel, no units given.

I agree, and wouldn't dismiss the patch either. I like the fact that is not the silver/grey scull awarded as Ehrenzeichen to the Flammenwerfertrupps but a black with red scull reflecting the Waffenfarbe of Pioniere and MW. Yes, not official ... but perhaps period.

In 1917, the Minenwerfer Bataillon XIII was fighting together with a Sturmbataillon and Flammenwerfertrupps at the Hartmannsweilerkopf. November 10, 1917 "Ein weiteres gro?es, neues Unternehmen auf der Kuppe startet vom LIR 124. Vier Sto?trupps von 4 Offizieren 120 Mann mit 38 Mann vom Sturmbataillon XVI, 18 Pioniere und 8 Flammenwerfer werden eingesetzt. Die gr?ndliche Ausbildung am ?bungswerk Ollweiler sollte jetzt Erfolg zeigen. Zerst?rungsschie?en durch das Minenwerferbataillon XIII und 3 Batterien Artillerie hielt den Feind nieder. "
