    1. Known as the "vornehmstes Regiment der Christenheit" the 1. Garde-Regiment zu Fuss was part of the elite 1st garde Division.... Here are 2 groups to Vizefeldwebel in the III. Batl. Vizefeldwebel Wilhelm Flottmann
    2. Sorry, due to an error on my side I erased Richards Pics, have asked him to repost them...
    3. Hi, Can I assume this is a tag issued right at the start of the war? Not only due to the form, but also the company number "80" would have put him right with the first intake... ?
    4. Hi, he took over the Division... I suppose he wanted to have his cake and eat it...
    5. Just found the following on the Regt, " Von Bismarck und später Graf zu Eulenburg-Wicken erhielten in der Ernennungsurkunde die Bezeichnung „Regimentsführer“, da ja der Prinz nach dem Krieg wieder der Regimentskommandeur werden wollte."
    6. OK, I warm ironed the wrinkles out, now the cross fits on the other side ... I can live with the result....
    7. Yeah, but you can see where the cross was on... if you put it on there... it is upside down... but you are right, I will flatten it and put the cross on the other side
    8. Here is my Moral Dilema.... The ribbon that came with the Group.... at some stage, somewhere, the recipient or his family decided to sew the miniature upside down onto the ribbon. Maybe at the time the man was 90, no longer so clear in the head and he did it for a reunion... god knows why.... I am torn between removing it and giving the medal its ribbon back... or leaving it "because thats the way it came".... Having said that... if the man had "improved" his award by a coat of cheap gold paint.... I would not have a problem thinking "That was a silly idea of his!" and removing it.... so.... 1) Remove it and the planets will be realigned in the corret order with one little cut... 2) Leave it and have a pice that has been played with for a bizar reason unknown to anyone alive today... and spend the next 10 years looking for an original piece of ribbon.... I am really on a fence here as I see both sides of the argument....
    9. I think it could be for anything from a dangly thing to a spoon.... my "British!" thought somehow came from the color
    10. I must admit, my first thought when I saw the case was "British!"... But it could be British made for a foreign or Cival award?
    11. From what I can see, we used to accept them, but that is no longer the case?
    12. I am a bit confused here... whats the story with the disappearing ridge on the left arm?
    13. Hi, It is however somehow auffällig with this regiment.... Führer is always the exceptions when it comes to the signatures on regimental level issued award documents. in those cases research often shows a temp command. Best Chris
    14. Hi, Is it correct to say that the Golden Militärverdienstkreuz ribbon should be 35mm wide as opposed to 30mm for an EK ? Thanks Chris
    15. Here is a Militärpass with the Gold Cross entered.... ' alt='' class='ipsImage' > ' alt='' class='ipsImage' >
    16. 1 August 1914: Eitel Friedrich Prince of Prussia14 November 1914 Friedrich von Bismarck (killed at Bouvincourt, acting commander)6 November 1916: Siegfried Graf zu Eulenburg-Wicken (acting commander)28 April 1917: (ad interim) Friedrich Franz Adolf von Stephani (acting commander)7 July 1917 – 11 December 1918: Siegfried Graf zu Eulenburg-Wicken (acting commander)27 August 1918: (ad interim) Friedrich Franz Adolf von Stephani (acting commander)1 September – 11 December 1918: Siegfried Graf zu Eulenburg-Wicken (acting commander)26 September 1918: (ad interim) Friedrich Franz Adolf von Stephani (acting commander)30 September – 11 December 1918: Siegfried Graf zu Eulenburg-Wicken (acting commander) As you see on the WIKI page for the Regiment.... Eitel Friedrich was Kommander.... then everyone else afterwards just Acting Commander or Führer
    17. Hi, for some reason I think Bavarians had a thing for Corduroy trousers... I am sure they would photograph darker than normal ones?
    18. Hi, I have always assumed the Regimentskommandeur is the commander, and Regiments Führer has Temporary command... But looking at award documets to the 1 garde zu Fuss i see all the commanders are listed as "Führer".... even after a couple of years at the helm. According to Wiki... All Princes of Prussia were commissioned lieutenants in the 1st Foot Guards upon their tenth birthdays. Regimentschef was always the King of Prussia. Can we assume that they are all listed as "Führer" because the Koenig is actually the Kommandeur, even if not there? Thanks Chris
    19. Thanks, Which book is it`? I see there are a number of different ones about the cross.
    20. It doesnt leave me fealing warm, although I admit it is not my collecting field. The part I do like is the leather rings, they look good. The rest leaves me a bit weary
    21. I would be very weary of this one....
    22. Hi, can anyone tell me without going to too much trouble how many awards were made for the 1 Garde Regt z. Fuss? Thanks Chris
