    1. Hi, I let my membership run out some time ago... now suddenly I need something... murphys law... If anyone is a member, could they look up the following in the bavarianmilitary records? Vizefeldwebel karl Dreitzel born 24.5.1893, very probably bavarian leib Regiment. Would be a huge help. Thanks Chris
    2. You mentioned these before... Thea are a fantastic piece of history indeed... I am green with envy!!!!! The archives in Pretoria have a huge file with the transcripts of all the testimonies given in court after the rebellion... there is also a SA Govt gazette that I once had in my hands in the reading room of the IWM in London that is chock-a-block full of interesting info... Wish I had time to copy them all...
    3. I have seen this on late 1945 r even some 46 docs.... but have not noticed any this late before..... Anyone have any other post war examples?
    4. Now to another guy.... the Komp is crossed out... he seems to be part of the "F.R.D." <Does anyone have any idea what this could be??
    5. OK, I posted this here although they are EK docs as it is more in the line of research..... Here is one doc to a guy in the MG Komp....
    6. Unless he had ear surgery, I think it is a different guy.
    7. That one is a fantastic study! Reminds me of a German memoir when a soldier is miffed because the Kaiser came by where 2 sections were resting after a fight.... One section had suffered badly but accomplished little due to an incompetent Lt. One had fought well, suffered few casualties due to a skilled Lt. The kaiser gave out crosses to the first unit as they looked more like troops ho had been fighting... Below, you seldom see Navy pics...
    8. Hi, I would not worry about that, there was noone to control how different firms made the EKs after WW1... Between 1918 until the LDO came along it must have been pretty much "wild west" time... That cross is way cool... I think you have a nice variation... I would not hesitate for a second. best Chris
    9. in fact... I REALLY like that cross!
    10. I like the cross... but am betting the ribbon will not be period. When I was in Budapest there were plenty of modern triangular EK ribbon set ups. Can you get better scans of the cross?
    11. A very nice bit of history indeed!! That really breathes life into the medal!
    12. Leather, Felt and covered..... 8th Bavarian Landwehr had them all....
    13. Hi, it does not need the reservist cross best Chrisd
    14. Would he have ERD behind his name? Better than the Volunteer Decoration initials I guess.....
    15. It did not come in a box :-) A guy in Aschaffenburg had it and he kept me hanging on for ages and ages before he sold it to me... On the new Uniforms section I have it up with some period photos of them being worn during the war... http://www.kaiserscross.com/286801/293101.html Best Chris
    16. Same waaaay cool stuff, two updates to catch up on including a WW1 Uniforms section...
    17. Born in the USA I was born in the USA... I had a brother at Verdun Fighting off the French-man They're still there, he's all gone etc. etc. etc.... Written in the back of this pic from the 2nd Bavarian Jäger Ersatz Battalion is "Straub, Luitpold + 13.7.1916) So, a bit of quick research shows Jäger Straub was killed at Verdun on the 13.7.1916, was born on the 20.10.1896 in New York, USA. Wish I knew which one he was....
    18. Wow.... not only a fantastic group... but the citation is the cherry on the top! Nice find!
    19. Would not mind one of those jackets.... anyone know the official designation?
    20. Hi, here is one dated december 1916

    22. hmmmm... may be paranoia on my side, but does that conform to a WW1 hinge and needle?
