    1. So... I have seen 1 more of these for sale without ribbon, have still to find any info on it, a glance through the leib regt history does not mention it... Any of the new blood in here seen anything about them?
    2. So..... are they still unclear ? :-)
    3. No, they were not... but therin lies the sneakyness of my plan... all crosses will be kept by me until the claiment can PROVE beyond ANY doubt, that the cross he is claiming actually WAS his.... Now excuse me... I think the postman is coming up the road....
    4. 90% of medals "souveniered" by the allies in 44-45 were stolen from the germans.... I want them returned... best place to send them is a small own in Bavaria, I will keep them here until the rightful owners claim them !!!!
    5. Hard to see on the photo, but this was also a very, very nice WW2 frame with 57 core... http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=12594
    6. I think many kings, princes etc had little "doodads" they gave out as a sign of appreciation, either as engraved snuff boxes, or unofficial pin on awards. Not to be worn on any uniform of course. I heard every baker and candy shop owner near carinhall got these ;-)
    7. I was in Tchad, spent some time at Abeche.... According to this the French troops there are not participating one way or the other? Are they supporting the Rebels by not doing anything? I have not kept abreast of anything in the region so I was suprised to see they were there, but not helping the Tchadian Govt as they have so often in the past. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/6182662.stm
    8. I would like to get one for my MG display, i assume they were used for them as well. In verdun I have seen 4-5, but alwaystotally destroyed.
    9. If I am not mistaken they were not even issued weapons? There is a supeb book about Armierungs units, it was banned in Germany between the wars, but was translated into german. I think it was called "education before Verdun"
    10. Hi, are you sure it is German? Best Chris
    11. Could it be that these were for wear in very cold areas where the guys did not move around much? They look big enough to wear 5 pairs of socks under, and the wooden soles are good for insolation on frozen ground?
    12. Nice one !! I must check for the watermark. My one was awarded for a wound recieved when the Destroyers were taking part in the action against the Glowworn, whose Skipper got the VC for the action.
    13. Hi, I had to make sure it was legal in every way shape or form. But I am nice and have it in the study... the bedroom would have been a nono ;-)
    14. What kind of ammunition did it use?
    15. How many folks think that "makers marks" on original imperial EKs are the wave of the future in new fakes? As variation collecting shifts into overdrive, I think this will be "where the money is at" for the fakers....
    16. Sometimes I think they were stiffed. A private could have ended the war with just an EK2 on his bar, whereas the Bavarians, Saxons etc usually had the EK AND their own trinkets.... I wonder if it made the average Prussian soldier angry.... I have never read anything about it.....
    17. Of course, historically speaking, the complete bars are better, and what the man had put on are what makes the history.... Buuuuuuutttttt.... deep down in your heart... do you prefer bars the way the man had it in november 1918, even if just a single EK2..... or the bars of the mid 30s with Hindy-cross and the whole bunch of 1920's "apply for's...send a self addresses envelpe and RM10 to cover costs"?
    18. Another example is the pic of the guy with the bandage here.. http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=12516
    19. Wow, Gurung really got around !!! What a group ! He must have led a charmed life.....
    20. I would think about soaking the filter in wd40 or something before it rusts through... it seems to be on its way to falling apart.
    21. I think it must have to do with the light and the grime. best Chris
    22. A bit late in asking.... but what DO these fetch?
