Nice! Was it identified to a wearer? I actually never actively wanted one... but then the chance popped up.... it is a small group of documents and the only award with it is the cross. I will post the whole group some time in the future, partially because I want to show exactly what is "there"... incase 10 years down the road someone else gts offered it with EK1 and 2 etc. etc... Anyway... for now I am happy and can do some research....

Same author makes himself look silly here... (or "sillier") http://www.welt.de/finanzen/geldanlage/article13184024/Mit-alten-Waffenroecken-laesst-sich-viel-Geld-machen.html -
obviously written by someone who has nothing to do with Militaria... http://www.welt.de/finanzen/geldanlage/article13387107/Sammler-reissen-sich-um-Opas-Militaerorden.html

Hi, one thing becomes rapidly aparent when researching WW1 on the eastern front.... many of the names the Germans used were used almost as a "one off"..... almost as if they created names as they went, which then dissapeared when they moved on... By this I mean, sometimes you find a german text with an eastern front name.... when you google, the ONLY reference to that place name is a single hist from 1917... Which leads me to think the germans used versions of place names that had little to do with the original name and were only used while they were there... Best Chris

Its a hard call.... there are many things we will never know when looking at a photo... could be a tailor in the town they were in sewed on leather... could have been repairs.... Its very hard to say.... and did Sturmkompagnie have their own detached MW? Or did they use the MW of troops they were fighting with... for me a "We will never know" photo...

Hi, Indeed... that is a pain.... however, I read that guys who extended their contract to go to war zone do qualify... in the French army you always need 6 months left on your contract when you go back to france.... so if 2 guys need to be sent to Afghanistan for 6 months... one guy still has 13 months on his contract, one guy 11.... the guy with 11 months has to extend another 6 months... (extentions are minimum 6 months) so he would still have more than 6 months when he gets back... the 5 months he WOULD have had are not enough, and he could then not be sent overseas for 6 months (Could however for 4 months)... If he extended... he would qualify for the medal... I remember in Desert Storm we had a guy sent back halfway through the tour... he had planned to open a karate Club and refused to extend... so they had to send him back so he would still have 6 months in France...

Just picked up another copy of "Unser Jäger"... they do pop up from time to time, but for some reason some book dealer on ebay had 5-6 of them, put them all on within weeks, and as a result they went pretty reasonably.... when it arrived I found a neat dedication... the recipient just served a few months with the battalion during the war, then in the 2nd Jäger Freikorps aschaffenburg... but nice to get the stamps...

Ebola Medal?
Chris Boonzaier replied to Megan's topic in Great Britain: Orders, Gallantry, Campaign Medals
I think the difference is many humanitarian crisis have no danger for westerners helping out.... when ebola hit the scene everyone was going "instant death! See it and die!!!"...... and in spite of that these people went there..... Ebola was thought of as sure death.... army gives a VC for people running to certain death..... I dont think this is an "Ordinary" case.... If I was a Medic I would have done everything to avaoid deployment... dont think there has been such a dangerous deployment since the plagues? Its different from going to help somewhere after the event....
