I was really happy this week to get some of my Wifes Paternal Grandfathers stuff. I have from her Maternal side, 2 great groups (Grandfather and great grandfather and even Militärpass from the 2nd Great granffather) but nothing from the fathers side. I had no idea he served in WW1 !

I just returned from a family visit to my wifes father where I chanced upon my wifes fathers KVK2, awarded in 1944 for "catastrophy management" during air raids over Munich... So here are here Great Grandfather, Maternal Grandfathers and Paternal Grandfathers....

I have however seen groups where the guy was in a combat unit, got EK2, Bavarian MVK... wounded, then as a civvie a war aid cross. :-)

Thats absolutely fantastic Pierre! That gives great information. What I still can not figure out, confronting the allied divisions on the 27th September were the 1st garde Reserve Div and 3rd Marine Div. Which one exactly was facing the canadians? From the map it is not so clear :-( -

Hi I just picked up a tiny diary, about the size of a matchbox, where someone wrote 10 small pages... I can pick out isolated words... but this one is not easy... Is it a terrible shorthand? Is it worth trying to translate ? Can anyone figure it out?? Thanks Chris
