    1. Hi, does anyone know how comman Belt fed as opposed to magazine fed Madsen MGs were in the german army? Thanks Chris
    2. I have an EK doc to another guy, who was also awarded the EK twice, once during the taking of Lüttich, and once in Brussels.... he was a major and probably got them direct from the Local commanding generals... and did not want to say..."Umm... I already have one..."
    3. It seems he has so many awards, has to struggle to fit them all on.... lots of loops on the jacket. best Chris
    4. Hmmm... aluminium sounds strange. Looks like a nice piece, from the pics I would have no problem having it in the collection. best Chris
    5. Given by the Captain to a Zahlmeister for his service to the 33rd Batl. Best Chris
    6. Most of these cases are cutlery. All you need to do is some hobby handywork on the interior, glue a small badge or EK pic to the outside of the lid.... and whammo!
    7. Ahhh.... but Jerreeee mon Ami.... almost as good as Johnneeeee.... (Does Johnny Hallyday have one as well??)

    9. That is the whole thing in a nutshell.... The Logo and the stamp do not need to correspond... and just matching the companys initials to the stamp on a ring can go pretty wrong as well. This list is a great find, but it is raw data that needs careful interpretation. best Chris
    10. I wonder if they were used as a kind of "tunnel rat" in the trenches..... After some time in some underground tunnels in Verdun/Argonne, I see the need for Vertically challenged soldiers....
    11. Well.... seems this claim has been quite neatley shot down... Dietrich was able to poke it full of holes in the time it took him to enjoy a cup of coffee. So Klein is back in poll position, The document is interesting, but certain caeats apply when comparing things. Best Chris
    12. Well, if you dont understand the Jerry Lewis award... you dont understand the French.... :-) J.L. has a status in France that few reach. Best Chris
    13. I dont doubt any of that.... but what did she do for France? That is the main criteria for the medal.
    14. Thank you , thank you, thank you!!! That is really good. It was not possible to pull the Company record without the name of another guy in the unit, so "Prehofer" was the key. Thanks a million. Chris
    15. Hi, Also in 1870 though? I am still trying to figure out the white ribbon stay at home and the black ribbon "service in the Heimat" EKs... if anyone has any new ideas?? Best Chris
    16. As everyone else has stated before..... Mindblowing!
    17. Maybe old Sarky just wanted to get close to her chest.... I guess there have always been some "pop candidates" over the decades....
    18. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2081548/Salma-Hayek-knighted-France-President-Sarkozy.html Say no more.... say no more.....
    19. OK, This is for someone fit in Ancestry mazes... I would love to do it, but dont have a sign in at the moment. For ages I have been looking for the 102nd pionier record of Alfons Hitzelberger http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/8085-was-it-possible/page__hl__hitzelberger I found a record of him from 9.7.15 to 4.8.15 then he was sent to the "5th Ersatz Komp"... from here on I find no further records. i assume that they cipied the name down wrong and the Ancestry search does not pick it up. But now... a stroke of luck... I found another name...a man named Josef Prehofer was killed in the same month... and was a member of the 102nd... There seem to be 6-7 Ancestry hits for him in the bavarian Army records... MAYBE there is a possibility, if one of the hits is the company record... of nailing Hitzelberger? It may be a roundabout complicated search... Another thought... is there any association membership deals for ancestry? A way to share the costs of membership? Best Chris
