    1. Hi, There are many officers who recieved the EK1 without being frontline combat officers, above a certain rank Outstanding Service was taken into account, this includes Staff officers, Doctors, etc. Best Chris
    2. Well, if the R became a W like I am sure I have read... "other Ranks" and "I outrank you!..." would make interesting conversation stoppers....
    3. I love the quality of some photos of that era that allow you to zoom in such detail.
    4. I remember reading somewhere about an "accent" that was fashionable amongst cavalry officers, but for the life of me I cannot remember where i read it. But it also seems to be more of a deliberate/affected speach impediment as opposed to an accent. "Weally Wobert!" However, i dont know what the source for it was. As long as there is no source that predates Flashman, it is possible that folks will say "He got that from Flashman!"... which in turn does not make it fantasy.
    5. I dont know what it is... but I like it :-))) Call your friend before he removes the boards! ;-)
    6. That is a really cool group. A small time capsule. If you live there and can find the stuff, Paris Liberation could be a really interesting collecting field
    7. This waaaay surpasses hobby level. Have seen some small busts of famous people for sale that are nowhere near as good as this.
    8. The Brandauer site looks pretty good.
    9. I was looking for cavalry... and found this....
    10. Hi Rob!! Looks like this is his 3rd one. I think his usual job was supply sgt. Do you have anything else from him? Best Chris
    11. The only thing I know about Austrian is..... Their Ebayers irritate the hell out of me... they sell on German Ebay, and every day i click on dozens of Austrian thingies thinking they are German... :-( Are you sure you want to do this Don ?!?!?!?!?
    12. Ancestry has one Jos Kahlfleisch in Landsturm Inf Batln Landshut... and the postcard was to München... so I guess that nails it...
    13. And this is pretty ambiguous "One consolation remains...."
    14. The more I look at it the more I see some old guy in his local music association, maybe still a volunteer Fireman, removing this from his sunday suit and using the long ribbon in an elaborate way to wear this through the buttonhole of his Music association tunic. Really cool indeed.
    15. That is a nice one, I imagine some old codger who had an elaborate system worked out how he wore it on his sunday best. best Chris
    16. Look at this!! http://www.ebay.de/itm/260861309692?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.de%3A80%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_npmv%3D3%26_trksid%3Dm570.l2736%26_nkw%3D260861309692%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1
    17. Some MG, Some MW... and some really obscure history... http://www.kaiserscross.com/152301.html
    18. On the other hand... there must have been a second guy willing to spend nearly as much...
    19. Ouch... I know nothing about CEF badges... but thats a lot of money to spend if an item is not a sure thing!
