Even assuming this was found in a KZ in 1945 by an (american ?) doctor... there are docuumented tins like this found by US vets in Dachau... although Dachau never used its Gas Chamber. The Zyklon B at Dachau had been used for other legitimate purposes for the surrounding military barraks... like Lice etc.... So, you could start of a Dachau tin collection.... Zyklon B tin, footpowder Tin, Roofing sealant tin from Dachau etc. Etc.

Some things just blow me away.... Like some idiot paying USD2700 for an empty tin on this auction..... http://www.cgmauctio...ct-from-Hamburg I think there is a major error in the description, I dont think Haber had anything to do with Zyklon B... But as you can see here..... Millions and millions of tins of this were made, used for everything from Fumigating Trains from Mexico to the USA to delousing uniforms in the Army... Before a Gas Chamber was ever created , hundreds of tons a year of this stuff were being prodiced for other purposes, from farming to industry.... So... before you shell out USD2700 for a tim that may have been used in Berlin to kill lice in BDM Panties.... ask your Buddy down in Texas.... "From 1929 onwards the U.S. used Zyklon B to disinfect the freight trains and clothes of Mexican immigrants entering the US.[13] Farm Securities Administration photographer Marion Post Wolcott recorded the use of cyanide gas and Zyklon B by the Public Health Service at the New Orleans Quarantine Station during the 1930s" if maybe THEY have an old tin in the barn somewhere.... we could become rich !!!!!! There is no denying this was used for terrible, terrible purposes.... but lets say an average of 200 tons a year, thats probably about 400 000 tins of this a year (in 1943 it was 800 000 tins)... we are talking millions of tins.... 99% being used for the purpose they were originally made for.... The doctor who this came from, working in the camps AFTER the war would probably have had it delivered for delousing as well.... So the buyer of this tin for USD2700......

France Need help with page of French Naval Military book
Chris Boonzaier replied to army historian's topic in France
Hi, the column "A la Mer" are the dates he was at sea, the "A Terre" was on shore, so the corresponding "Terre" names are places (Brest, Toulon etc) and by the "Mer" they are ships names (Hard to read) If I remember correctly, somewhere there is an entry that this sailor did not speak French either ;-) -
Thanks Jimmy :-))

I am really not a Bayonet collector, but they seem to come on thheir own of late... I bought this on impulse, then thought "Aaaaarrgghh! What have I done!!" It has a square ring on the sheath instead of the tongue slider for the German Bayonet frog. There is no crown with letter stamped on the back of the blade, and it has a piece missing from the muzzle ring. Buuuut in the end, alls well that ends well.... obviously a bullet took out the missing part... anyone guess why the other two points (stamp and Square ring instead of slider) were explained? Best Chria

Chris Boonzaier replied to christerd's topic in France
Hi, its the Verdun medal. The regiment was more famous for its fighting on the hartmannsweilerkopf, their monument is there... See here for some related stuff (bottom of the page) http://www.kaiserscross.com/40047/41321.html -
Only able to log in at work for quick looks... Somehow my computer at home has no online connection... at least it does, but only for a few minutes till the connection breaks down. Guy from the telephone company comes monday to repair it, so will be back fully then... after I get back from the dentist. Never rains but it pours!

Hi, any idea how many were awarded? Best Chris -
You know how when all these celebrities who believe in reincarnation were always Catherine the Great or Atilla the hun in a previous life... Well... of the 106 given out, many, many to people we have never ever heard of.... why are the 3 last ones for sale to "names" i.e. Skorzeny, Sperrle, Loerzer.... and not to unknowns like Müller, Schmidt and Hans-Peter? What happened to the badges given to unknowns? Or do originals from "unknowns" ger re-pedigreed to become badges to famous people From what I understand, a couple of British collector/dealers have fantastic medal making silver and gold smiths working for them, one example being the bomb plot wound badges... are the combined P/O also being done?

Chris Boonzaier replied to ColinRF's topic in Military Art
Just a silly question... did you check to see what colour his eyes are? Not that they should be brown or something...
