    1. And the very mysterious orders book..... A single award in 1943....... nothing else.
    2. Very observant Herr Lundstr?m.... these do appear to be NKVD style pockets on the tunic...... but that's not what's special!
    3. Also, make sure that backing material is archive-quality and acid-free.... or you'll get more surprises than you can count!
    4. Greetings Kunsho. I'm not so sure I would interpret that to mean that the cross itself is "modern".... perhaps that the cross was replaced in "modern times". I think no comment can be made on the cross itself without much clearer photos. Claudio, if you'd like, I can move the thread into Imperial and you can pop up some better scans of the cross?
    5. Gee whiz! Looks like a nice, early silver one but I've never seen a blank either! I thought the tags were pronged through the back? Are the name tags applied individually to a backing plate?
    6. Nope! But that does confirm everyone in the Soviet Military was having a "Bad Hair Day" as early as 1940! ;>)
    7. Mike, thanks for showing your equipment and the fun reminisce of the local "flavor"!
    8. Micha, this is pretty scarce as campaign medals go and this one looks to be in excellent condition for its' age. I know that repro ribbon is out there, but I will dig through my box and see if I have a slip of original you can have.
    9. Thanks Jani! It's good to have our own resident experten available for this fun area of study!!
    10. Hi Kunsho, it was referenced earlier that it had been sold by Hermann Historica. And if anybody is interested in the bar, this should not deter them. While hard to find, the MVO is replaceable. I have one listed elsewhere on the sales forum.
    11. Good Morning Ed! Nice screwback, I think there's no shame in pieces that these fellows had repaired. I'll take the honest wear & tear of daily use and the subsequent repairs anyday!
    12. Hi Mike, I don't think they qualify as "collectors".... accumulators & pack-rats maybe.... they sound like my Dad... keep everything, you might need it someday!
    13. Hey Mike, Ronnie's Ice Cream on Southbridge Street (Route 12) is still there, but no Ronnie's on 20 (??????) Maybe I'm confused a bit! We can ask The (Truly) Evil Twin?.... but I don't think he gets out of the cave too much!
    14. PS: I grew up in Westfield.... as a kid I delighted in the one "cool old guy" in town who drove around M-F in a perfectly preserved Willy's. Radio, gerry Cans, Shovel, axe and pick.... full kit. On the weekends he drove an M-43 Track........ now THAT raised a few eyebrows when it went by! ;>)
    15. Hey Mike! I think Ronnie's is long gone..... but Howie's in West Brookfield, The Clam Box in East Brookfield and (my personal recommendation) Jaqui's Dairy Bar in Leominster are still around!~
    16. Well, that's not entirely true Mr. Research...... I happened to come across a pair of Self-Propelled 155mm Guns on low-boys right around the corner from your house ...... now that was a sight! Now...... if they just had that red flag that said "BANG".....
    17. Hi Kev, a poignant thread. Some great photos and thanks for bringing this record of history to the Forum.
    18. Rather than start a whole new thread, I'll add on.... I'm hoping this photo actually makes it through to me. We shall see, his feedback was pretty good. Now, why did I find this photo so interesting?
