    1. There's been a couple of these that have floated through here.... Very hard to find packet. Very hard to find mounted on the bar!
    2. No, hand snipped anything should make you see a big red STOP sign........ But brass in and of itself isn't bad. It depends on how it's made/finished/stock used, etc. There's an impending (Truly) Evil Twin? article on Ribbon Bars.......... watch for updates, much will be discussed and revealed.......
    3. 4K via Western Union to China? Takes PayPal, but not for this one? I dunno.............. it doesn't seem to be the wisest way to spend money. His feedback is OK, one negative, one neutral.... but when I toss 4K, I'd like it to at least be with someone I can easily get a hold of if I need to.... Other than that, darn nice looking medal! ;>)
    4. Now that things have calmed down a bit.... I just want you guys to know... No matter what the "Other Rick" says... HE'S the (Truly) Evil Twin?. Why even as a young tyke he was constantly "brown-nosing" Papa.... look at that face. Can you see it? "I wonder how I can get my brother in trouble with Papa today.........?"
    5. The Twins discussed this today and I have a boomerang to toss..... but it's a GOOD one. We think your case actually dates to the 1870 era based on construction and the catch...... not such a bad thing, eh?
    6. Hi SPM (it's so much easier), I like yours simply by virtue that it does not have the nasty ring on top like the one that was briefly here.
    7. Maybe all the silver wash is just worn off. Or maybe somebody just buffed it within an inch of it's life!?
    8. Greetings! I have no dispute that many of these were made by casting, but if you look at the very well preserved details of these, then compare to the 1870 I sent back, you'll see what I mean by "softness" and "wear"... I don't think that 1870 I had was gilded bronze. Just not willing to take a chance like that on such a rare piece.
    9. Hi Doug, nice research. How much of his stuff do you have?? Pictures?! Thanks!
    10. I'd agree. Need much better photos before you can make any kind of decision on authenticity!
    11. Nope, you'll see all brass on WW2 ribbon bars. Usually using up older, pre-war stock. There's unfortunately no hard & fast rules... it's more of a case of examining each piece as it comes down the line.
    12. I'd be careful with this.. The probability of a WW2 soldier surviving the war and having only The East Medal I would say were slim. Not impossible, but unusual. More likely, it's simply some type of "display" piece. Of course if that's what your after, more power to you!
    13. I've seen bronze ones, real Silver ones, silver wash over cruddy war metal, real Gold, silver gilt, bronze gilt. What's on the back "Dem verdienst"?
    14. Well, I can accept that the bar has a slim possibility of being correct. The problem becomes that the chances of finding an RK to replace the Sax-Meiningen piece is pretty slim. I looked over the photos again carefully. I don't think a ribbon was removed/replaced. So it appears to me anyway that the bar is possibly correct.
    15. I am certainly no expert on these, my feet are barely damp. But it's odd that the book would be issued in 1967, with the one award. Then I can accept the later one added in. But to then add the first one after the fact. Just seems contrary to what everyone is telling me as to "the way it should be". May be perfectly fine, but it's definately unusual in the least!
    16. I saw that post by Alexei and it left me puzzled. My impression was that the generally accepted rule of thumb here was all the "mirror backs" were made by The Moscow Artists Collaberative and were the earlier pieces. I have not seen any of these marked for the Leningrad Mint at all?? Does anyone have an example, or a photograph of one marked for Leningrad? Or even one in silver?
    17. FR is usually accepted as Friedlander. The centers were not hollow. Originally, they would have been packed with resin, which is what held everything together.
    18. Yep, as nice a cased EK2 as I've seen in forever. I'd agree, the hangers an afterthought, but does not detract from the case at all. IMO.
    19. The real silver variations of this are just the top of the line. There's been a bunch that have come out of the woods over the last year. All very, very nice.
    20. And both are rather hard to locate. especially in this condition. I have only had the Silver once, cased. Never a Gold. Very nice indeed!
