    1. The War Merit Cross is a completely different award and not part of the Albrecht series of awards.
    2. Do you have a pick of the bronze one? As far as I know this one came only in one class, with or without swords.
    3. That is the Albrechtkreuz with swords. The enameled ones are Knights Crosses (1st or 2d class).
    4. I found this neat little coronation badge. The details are excellent.
    5. Given England's far flung empire it was imperative that she maintained an ability to keep the shipping lanes open. Germany had no such need. The build up of the German Navy was a vain attempt by Willy to mimic Britain. He looked for a fight where one needn't have been.
    6. Very interesting Mervyn. Thanks for sharing that with us. Is there a website for the exploration of the wreck?
    7. And every one of those points in the article deserve their own thread for thoughtful analysis and discussion.
    8. Now that's a change, getting slapped by a "Willy." Usually it is the other way around.
    9. I have a couple as well. I'm glad collectors haven't gone a goo goo over them or the prices would be hire than what they are now.
    10. Examine the pins by mark and see if they are all the same. If the "k" pins are all alike then we can deduce they came from the same maker.
    11. And it needs to be ruled in or out.....
    12. I would think a comparison of pins by mark is required to determine if the mark might be linked to a particular pin type.
    13. Exactly. So how does it become a quality control mark then? Personally I think the whole quality control mark theory is weak. Perhaps it is the maker mark of the firm that made the pin.
    14. Mine had a "k" stamped into it. As for why the underside of the pin, well, here's a thought. Look at how a pin is shaped. If you want it to lay flat when you stamp it then it needs to be laid top down. Sometimes the obvious answer is the easiest.
