    1. I think you are corect Chris. As for the type of wound the guy got, it did not matter. A mere flesh wound or an arm blown off would have gotten him a black wound badge for his first award.
    2. Without the paperwork I would have assumed some collector had made that bar.....
    3. Thanks guys. I was pulling my hair out on this. Mod, please move it to the Weimar Republic forum.
    4. Nice. I am currently reading a book on the mining operations of the ANZAC Mining Corps.
    5. You could probably make someone talk with it as well......... What's the date on it?
    6. Am I having a blond moment or what? I cannot find this in my OEK.
    7. Sometimes the case is more interesting than the award. I think this is one of those times.
    8. Nice. Can you tell what ordnance the fragmentation came from?
    9. Some god info can be found here: http://www.trenchfighter.homepage.t-online.de/40029/40802.html

How can one donate to the cause?
    11. Nice cases, especially the early ones. I've always thought the burgundy were the first. I have two cases, one for a mid war KO cross and the other that is a private purchase case holding a square marked cross.
    12. This book is a must for anyone interested in the Turkish War Medal. It provides a wealth of background material wrt the award including a look at the decrees that established it. The book has a picture of the prototype award as per the decree which, thank God, they did not adopt. The book shows numerous examples, both awarded types and the enamelled versions favored by European recipiants. The book also explains the campaign bars that we find attached to the ribbons. A nice, concise read. This book is chock full of facts and no fluff.
    13. I think there is an outline of a laurel on the MVO ribbon. Perhaps there are pin holes in the black stripes????
    14. While I'm sure the idea of using a piece of driving band to make something for a loved one back home I always knew the majority of them were "manufactured." They are too consistant to be random bits of salvaged bands. They had enough time on thier hands to make all kinds of stuff. Most of it was probably for front line use though and not gifts for the folks back home.
