I was fortunate to find this little jewel lately at an auction ,probably as no one could decipher the German Suterlin it was written in ( I nearly missed it as I also struggled)! . It is the complete Ahnenpass belonging to Major Martin Drewes ,the highly decorated ,and famous WW2 German Night Fighter Pilot Ace, and Knights Cross with Oakleaves bearer ,and Group Commander of III./NJG 1.Drewes was only one of a handfull of pilots that saw action in Iraq (under Iraqi colors) in WW2 against the RAF (most collectors do not know about this theatre of action). The Ahnenpass (Ancestral Passport)is a document tracing the Aryan Lineage of a German Citizen 4 generations back .This was a vital document to have if one hoped to make a career in the Third Reich. It came with three original private snapshot photos of Drewes ( which I suspect have never been published) ,which were lying loosely between the pages, which really was a lovely bonus. Translated herunder AHNENPASS of Name:. Martin Drewes Place: Lobmachtersen Adress: Über Wolfenbüttel Telephone: Barúm 272

I would really appreciate some opinions please . I have purchased this this KC which appears to be a Klein & Quencer piece .I am unsure of it and a few things worry me as follows: 1. The Swastika does not have nice square ends to the arms 2. The numbers "3" and " 9" in 1939 and 1813 do not have the distinctive curl-back at the bottom . 3 . All the corners of the beading seem worn and loose distinction of the beading. 4. The marks "800" and"65" on the split ring are punched on the side of the wire ,instead of the front ,and the "800" is punched upside down compared to the "65" 5. The size at 49.2 x 54.5 varies from the spectrum of sizes I have seen on other wartime "65 "pieces .I found about 15 on the e-medal website to compare. 6.The remnants of filing marks to the top of the eye should not be there. Could this be a post 1957 K&Q piece that has had the swastika added perhaps.?Maybe it is a KC by another maker?

piekenier replied to bryansk1959's topic in Germany: Weimar Republic & Deutsche Freikorps
nice original it looks like the one I had in my collection a number of years ago when I upgraded to one that the enamel was better on. -
I am looking to aquire this piece .I is an L/13 gold cross with most of the gold wash gone. The swastikas are all there but have been made unrecognizable on the photos with photoshop. The eagle wings are correctly soldered to the cross ,the L/13 mark looks right as does the catch and needle . Thanks in advance

Kevin this is a very scarce buckle indeed .On the eve of the second Boer War ,commonly known as the Boer War ,in 1898 the Orange Free State artillery had a strength of about 160 men which included officers under the Leadership of Major Richard Friedrich Wilhelm Albrecht. The possessed about 24 guns (cannons) of various calibers at that stage . Albrecht was a Prussian ,who had seen service in the Franco Prussian war ,was recruited in Germany and contracted by President Brand of the Orange Free State in 1880 ,to head up and build up the artillery corps there .Albrecht ,who had 12 years service in the Prussian artillery ,took over a very small Artillery Corps with the rank of a Captain and had become a Major by 1898..(Source Artlillery of the Anglo-Boer War by Lional Crook)

HJ: Hitler-Jugend HJ Honour Badge?
piekenier replied to Jock Auld's topic in State, Civil Awards & Decorations
The "11" denotes approved M11 manufacturer of NSDAP badges .Not sure why the manufacturer did not have a complete M11 number . The BM1/122 denotes the RZM badge metal manufacturer number (M1 number )assigned to the specific manufacturer . This is the way I read it . The badge looks like a very good original. -
The Artillery sword has lovely engraving. Is there a maker mark? The two wartime IOD 89 swords are fine examples ,most interesting .They were made of base metal (iron) rather than brass ( as brass was reserved for cartridge cases) and generally brass plated .The brass plating wore off very quickly. Are they maker marked? Do make some more photos of the hilt, basket and blades .
