    1. Charakter as a Major d.R. a.D. and permission to wear his former uniform on 28 February 1921. Regards Glenn
    2. Morning Andreas, He was originally an active Saxon field artillery officer. In 1914 he was attached to the Intendantur of the XII. Armeekorps. Regards Glenn
    3. Andreas, these are his "final" orders as given in Kleist's "Die Generale der königlich Preußischen Armee 1840-1890". As usual, medals are not listed. Regards Glenn
    4. This chap was a new one to me: Hauptmann d.R. (Major d.R. a.D.) Georg Stackebrandt of 3. GRFAR. Oberleutnant d.R. of the Feldartillerie-Schießschule in 1914. Regards Glenn
    5. Andreas, his original Patent as a Seconde-Lieutenant was 23 April 1874. When he was transferred to Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 21 on 29 April 1879, he was granted an improved Patent of 19 May 1873. He was originally commissioned directly into Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 83 from the Kadettenkorps. Regards Glenn
    6. My pleasure. To tell the truth, if I had seen this thread 13 years ago, I would have answered it then. Musicians are a particular interest of mine. Regards Glenn
    7. Morning Andreas, yes, that is correct. Ernst von Hülsen received the character of an Oberstleutnant on 17 September 1909 and a Patent as such of 13.9.11. He retired on 19 June 1912 and died on 24 July 1912 in Schierke, Harz. Walter von Hülsen was a full General der Infanterie. Promoted on 12 June 1921 with a Patent of 1.10.20. Regards Glenn
    8. Further to my earlier post please find the general's entries from the Offizier-Stammlisten of the 1. Garde-Regiment zu Fuß, 1913 and 1935 editions. Interestingly, the Stammliste gives a different date of the award of the character of a Generalleutnant. 25 September 1920 is the date given in the Militär-Wochenblatt. Regards Glenn
    9. yes. Sek.-Lt.: 15.4.84 Pr.-Lt.: 2.9.92 Gen.Maj.: 18.4.15 P Gen.Lt.: 25.9.20 (char.) Regards Glenn
    10. Morning, the then Generalmajor Otto von Strubberg, commanding 30. Infanterie-Brigade in Coblenz around 1871. Regards Glenn
    11. Hi Gunnar, I have the regimental history from WW1 and unfortunately it does not add anything further than you already know: just a last peacetime officers' list that shows he retired on 4 July 1914 with no reference to further service. Regards Glenn
    12. Hi Andreas, yes, the Felddienstzeichen 1840-1866 signified by the medal with the letter "L" in the extract below (3rd from the end on his medal bar). This from the 1870 edition of the Grand-Ducal Hessian court and state handbook where he is listed as a Lieutenant in the 4. Infanterie-Regiment (the later Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 118). Regards Glenn
    13. Andreas, this from the Offizier-Stammliste of Füsilier-Regiment 40 (which he commanded) and a pre-war photograph. Regards Glenn
    14. Morning Andreas, indeed he did. He was commissioned directly into Füsilier-Regiment Nr. 36 from the Kadettenkorps effective 7 March 1896. This from the Militär-Wochenblatt of 1896, edition number 22 of 11 March 1896. Regards Glenn
    15. David, he was reinstated as an Oberlieutenant. It was often the case when German officers took a "career break" to serve with foreign armies. They often received quite senior rank but strict German rules of seniority precluded reinstatement at such elevated ranks. A more well known example is that of the later Prussian General der Infanterie August von Goeben. He left Prussian service in 1836 as a Seconde-Lieutenant and entered the Spanish Carlist army in the same rank. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel by 1840 and re-entered the Prussian army in 1842 again as a Seconde-Lieutenant! Regards Glenn
    16. David, this is better; from the 1. Schwere-Reiter-Regiment (formerly 1. Cürassier-Regiment). Regards Glenn
    17. Hi David, this from the 6. Cheveaulegers-Regiment regimental history. No mention of Hessian service. Regards Glenn
    18. Hi David, please find below his portrait from Priesdorff and a biography from Kleist. Regards Glenn
