    1. There were a number of German officers in Argentina pre-1914 (and after). There's been an article on some of them. The Germans sold the Argentines a LOT of weapons (think Argentine Mausers, bayonets, Krupp artillery etc.) and a German military mission was sent to train the army with the weaponry. My guess is that you also find an article out there about Germano-Argentine Diplomatic relations during this era as it cries out for some PHD student to have studied. The Argentine records are still extant and rather complete-IF you can get access. It might help to have someone local to do the research though.
    2. Wow!! What a great group!! You don't see these all together like this very often. Does Washington state have a Ww1 service book? They used to publish annual National Guard books with service records in them in the 1920s-1940s. I note in the rolls he is named 'Wilhelm Pluss" (probably hung out in Leavenworth occasionally) and was a Cpl. in the 40th Co. CAC (Gleim's Cuban Occupation medal roll).
    3. very nice-very,very nice. You mentioned a badge book. What is that? Is one available commercially that you know of?
    4. I just spent a happy hour and a half reading the Bulgarian military thread over at the WAF. I am completely wrong about the imperial flying badge (and so was my book). See here: http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/sho...lgarian+uniform Bulgarian badges are a faking minefield. It seems large numbers are very well made fakes and more than a few are simple fantasy items, so beware. By the way, the pilots and observers badges appear to have been promulgated in the mid 1930s. the imperial one was from 1915-1919/20.
    5. Well, I have looked and looked and the only references I can find all seem to indicate that the Bulgarian imperial pilots badge was the only one they had in 1916-19. There's one at the OMSA database. I can find NO reference at all to an observers badge or a Marine pilots badge. My references are limited though, so maybe there is an ultra rare badge out there.
    6. Ditto-once again. Ed, perhaps we should consider a Hungarian "research trip"?
    7. OK I was wrong. My Bulgarian badges book starts in @ 1933. However, there are others out there with aerial badges pictures (Stogieman???)?
    8. I think perhaps he is more concerned about the "Manufacture and sale of Nazi items"-things that carry a swastika are a felony in Austria are they not? However, the internet sale of a "copy bar" is merely a misdemeanor or more likely a mere " linguistic misunderstanding". There is method to the madness here.
    9. Ah- I see, you are going from war time german sources. the "medals" we are speaking of are lower grades of "orders"-the 4th class bravery medal is easily spotted for example in the Bulgarian medals thread in this forum section. The "Military service cross" is almost certainly the 'Order of Military merit" (one of my favorite medals). The badge is uber-rare and I'll go dig a picture out.
    10. Hmmmm...you are right!! Given the plethora of Bulgarian awards about I supposed they'd be there (there's a nice bravery medal by the way on the end of the luftwaffe bar presently being discussed. I have the "big" book-and shall try to post a few pics. tonight.
    11. Really? I assumed my last issue (1944) on thin, worn wartime paper was the last issue! Do you know where I can find the series from 1967-75?
    12. Try the OMSA datbase here: http://www.omsa.org/photopost/showgallery....=547&page=2 Ed worked hard to get a lot of those pictures on the site.
    13. Excellent!! Thanks for identifying this badge; it really is super.
    14. Superb! Have you come to any statistical conclusions? Is the above iron clad (with a few equitable/inequitable exceptions)? If you have, may I urge you to publish this information as soon as possible? I and many others would love to know more.
    15. I must say, bar #1 is magnificent-look at the quality, the eveness of it on the whole-the absolute "rightness' of it. Makes one look hard at many, many others on the market.
    16. Dave-can you supply us with a source/stautes/regs as to the above chart?. Isn't a FeldwebelLt. basically the same position/rank (e.g. company commander) as OfficerStellvertr., except in a reserve/Landwehr unit?
