    4. The group with the TWM and their friends with European style hats and clothing is very interesting. They also wear the ribbon of the TWM and Gallipoli style hats (Enveriye). They are not Turkish officers but Indian Muslims who fought side by side with their Turkish brothers. They were a medical unit. Indian muslims also helped the Turkish War of Liberation during the years 1919-22 by sending money and medical aid. Mustafa Kemal Ataturk grunded the famous Turkish Bank "Türkiye İş Bankası A.Ş." with the capital sended by our Indian Muslim brothers in 1926 just after the declaration of New Turkish Republic. Türkiye İş Bankası A.Ş. is one of the leading banks of the world economy.
    5. I think my old and dear friend Gallipoli 1915 made a typing mistake. 1917/12/13 is not a date of Rumi Calander but "Miladi" Calander. Miladi calender is the modern calender which begings with the birth of Jesus Christus. 1333/12/13 is Rumi. Turks had the Rumi calander till the republic era. Rumi means "land of Romans". Turks called their home "diyar-ı Rum". Land of Romans and the Sultan was called "Sultan-ı iklim-i Rum" Sultan of Roman lands.
    6. Hello All, This is a photo of Turkish military family. He is a Lt.Col of Medical unit. He is a doctor. A hero who fought at both sides. On the British and Turkish sides during the Gallipoli fights. A hero who fought later againts Greeks during the years 1919-22. A hero who charged againts the Greeks with the 5th Turkish Cavalry AC on the great attack of Augus 26th 1922. General of the Army Fahrettin Altay tells about "Sir Edward Grey" in his book. "Canakkale Hatıraları" (Gallipoli Memories) "One day my orderly soldier brought an English dog who lost his master and came to our positions. I cared it. he got used to me. I gave it the name "Grey" while he was coming from British side. An American journalist came to visit the front and interviwed me. As he saw Grey by my side, he tapped its head and asked his name. "Grey" I told the story. he laughted and said http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_02_2010/post-2038-126540017814.jpg"I didnt knew that you admired Sir Edward Grey?" Grey lived with me until its dead. 21. Those photos shows Yavuz at Istinye Docks on the European side of Bosphorus. The name "Yavuz Sultan Selim" was given to the ship after her registration to Turkish Ottoman Navy. Yavuz Sultan Selim was a Turkish Sultan ( father of Soliman the Magnificent) Sultan Selim anexed Egypt into Turkish Territory in 1517. He fought againts Persians and defeated them in two battles. He took the Holy cities Damascus, Jerusalem, Mecca and Medina into Turkish possesion and became the first Turkish Califf. He was given the nickname "Yavuz" the Grim because of his hard manner. In Turkey people name her as "glorious" The only glorious event in her life is that she carried the mortal body of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk from Istanbul to Izmit where he was carried to Ankara with train in 1938. Turks love her dearly. Many songs were sunk for her: "Yavuz geliyor Yavuz Suları yara yara Kız ben seni alacagım Başına vura vura" (Yavuz is coming, cutting the wawes) Hey Girl I will marry you) Turks gave her name to new borned boys: My late brothers name was "Yavuz" In 1964 or 1965 she was still ancored from the back to the quai of Naval HQ at Golcuk/Izmit. I was one of the happy Turks who set foot on her wooden deck. There were only a sentry guarding her. He permitted me and my late father to enter the ship. We visited her cabins. Poor Yavuz was made shaving razor. http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php...highlight=yavuz Turkish Naval Officers with German Matrosen on the deck of Yavuz.

    23. Hello All, according to Turkish Republic's Law of "War of Independance Madal" the elder son could carry his fathers madal after his death even he is a civilian. The elder grandson and so on... During Ottoman Turkish period the law of medal also permitted the elder son to carry his fathers madals. For that reason I insist that this young officer is carying his late fathers medala proudly. After the declaration of republic it was forbitten to carry Ottoman decorations.
