Hello all,

I am in search for some original ribbon for the Austrian Verdienstkreuz des Malteserordens as exemplified by an example from @Claudio’s collection: 

I have searched the OMSA ribbon bank and have been unsuccessful but undeterred. Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated. 

@ClaudioIt’s almost embarrassing to say! I found it while doing research into Achim von Arnim and I somehow came across this photo and almost nonchalantly said to myself: that’s von Hütier! Not sure when it was taken, or even where, but here’s the rest of the photo:

I figured there should've been oak leaves, made me a little suspicious with out them. Now I can't image many of this particular RAO was awarded, is there a set number of awards? Phenomenal as always Andreas, you are the envy of many a collector.  

@Triad08 Very well put, couldn't agree more myself, I suppose its fun to speculate with such rare and unique pieces. 

@TheMadBaron, further, there is and will be much variation to these caps, as noted by the single button, many would often times be private purchases, clearly evident by the contrast in quality. 

I'm glad I could be of some assistance, if you want an authentic Bergmutze this is one currently for sale at Weitze.

It’s most likely a veterans organization, Deutsches Kreiger Bund 

@TheMadBaron,yes he is apart of the alpine corps. From my understanding it was a symbol of their specific branch of the army, in this case it is the artillery as the symbol is a grenadiers bomb. Here’s an example:

according to eherenzeichen-orden, the oak leaves signified the upgrade from a previous award of a lower class, similar to the scheilfe  of the 3rd class.

I may be wrong, but wouldn’t  oak leaves be present on such a award? Especially with such long service, previous awarded classes would have made sense, or would oak leaves make it to bulky and it was of the opinion of the owner
