    1. Gentlemen, after many hours of research (thanks to Glenn and the Verordnungs-Blätter), I have found out a few things, but I still do not know if pilot or Beobachter (any help appreciated) : Hans von Euler-Chelpin completed his mandatory military service as a one-year volunteer (Einjährig-Freiwilliger) with the Königlich Bayerisches 1. Feldartillerie-Regiment „Prinzregent Luitpold“ from c. 1890 to 1891. At some time making Vizewachtmeister? On 27 November 1914 with Patent from 18 August 1914, he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant of the Reserves. On 26 October 1916, he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant of the Reserves with Patent from 27 September 1916. In the winter of 1916–1917, he took part in a mission to the Ottoman Empire (Deutsche Militärmission), a German ally during World War I, to accelerate the production of munitions and alcohol. In 1917, he returned to the front. On 16 March 1918, he received a new Patent as Oberleutnant d. R. from 19 May 1915. On 30 June 1918, he was promoted to Hauptmann (Captain) of the Reserves. Military Merit Order (Bavaria), 4th Class with Swords on 15 January 1915 Iron Cross (1914), 2nd Class on 4 February 1915 (sadly couldn't find a 1st Class) Military Merit Order (Bavaria), 4th Class with the Crown and Swords on 30 August 1918 Norblad Ekstrand Prize from the Swedish Chemical Society in 1927 Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1929 Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer Goethe Medal for Art and Science (Goethe-Medaille für Kunst und Wissenschaft) in 1943 Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, Great Cross with Star (Knight Commander's Cross)
    2. Yes, he is very well known, BUT his military career is sparsely publicized. I'll take everything you have. Thanks! Oh well, I tried your tip, registered as a guest, was quite easy, but then of course they only let me see names, nothing else. Even for a free trial they need credit card or PayPal, I have neither.
    3. Gentlemen, I read Hans Karl August Simon von Euler-Chelpin (b. 1873) served as a Einjährig-Freiwilliger (1891/92) with the Bavarian artillery. In WWI, he served again with the artillery, transferring to the Fliegertruppe in 1915, finally Hauptmann der Reserve. Does anyone have any exact information about promotions and especially decorations. He served for a time in the Ottoman Empire (Deutsche Militärmission). I am having problems finding out, if he was a pilot or Beobachter. I would be very thankful for any typ of information about his military career. A picture in uniform? I don't have that much hope. 😉
    4. Phantastic additions, Dave, thank you! One question about Patent Nr. 10: I am reading 9 March, am I reading it wrong? Source: Verordnungs-Blatt des Königlich Bayerischen Kriegsministeriums, 1902, Beilage 2, p. 57 https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=mdp.39015062987725&seq=533
    5. This is what I have now been able to put togehther: Fahnenkadett (Kadetten-Korps) 22 July 1885 Portepee-Fähnrich (Officer Cadet) 7 March 1887 Second-Lieutenant (2nd Lieutenant) 24 March 1895 Premier-Lieutenant (1st Lieutenant) 9 March 1902 Hauptmann (Captain) 20 September 1910 Major with Patent from 28 October 1909 (27 a) Royal Order of Francis I (Kingdom of the Two Sicilies), Knight's Cross 2nd Class (Sic.Fr.3b/ScF3b) on 18 August 1891 Jubiläumsmedaille für die Armee on 12 March 1905 Military Merit Order (Bavaria), 4th Class Bavarian Long Service Cross (Königlich Bayerisches Dienstauszeichnungskreuz), II. Class for 24 years (BDK2/BD2) on 21 July 1909 Red Eagle Order (Roter Adlerorden), 4th Class (PrA4/RAO4), permission to accept and wear on 8 September 1909 Highest recognition expressed (Allerhöchste Anerkennung) by Prince Luitpold in the name of the King of Bavaria for the extraordinary achievements of Euler's company in shooting training on 27 October 1909 Military Merit Order (Bavaria), 4th Class with the Crown on 30 December 1913
    6. That is a good queston, but the Verordnungs-Blatt des Königlich Bayerischen Kriegsministeriums 1916, suppl. Jul-Dec, p. 3844 only states RAO2 with swords. 1917 and 1918 do not state crown or star.
    7. Gentlemen, can anyone help out with a birthdate and first name(s) of said Bavarian Major Euler? Thank you!
    8. We will probably never know. Here a small extra: Walter Rudolf Junker (12 March 1895 – 21 June 1980), son of Otto Junker and Anna Karoline, née Morat. I was not able to find out if he was married or had children.
    9. I thought, I saw a picture with the Spange to his EK II, but this is not on the list. Let me add: This site has his promotion date as Oberleutnant zur See on 14 May 1921, but Rangliste 1922 states 7 January 1920 ... maybe patent or RDA? Thanks!
    10. I was hoping for a SEK3, or at least a SEK 4, but the Ranglisten der Deutschen Reichsmarine strangely only have the EK 2 and 1 listed.
    11. Good evening, Dave! In this picture, Folttmann (far right) is wearing a grand cross star. I read on AHF this should be the GC of the Order of Military Merit (Bulgaria) ... but I really can't make it out. Do you have any information about this? Thanks!
    12. Thank you, Glenn! I knew nothing of the Verordnungs-Blatt until I read your post from Saturday. Now it is already valuable for my research. Here is what I have on Walter ...
    13. Another really nice one, Dave! https://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=268015&p=2441169&hilit=Golden%2C+Hans+Ernst#p2441169

    17. Do you happen to know when Walter was promoted to Oberstleutnant? Thanks! His promotion to Major was 3 November 1914.
    18. Thank you, Glenn! So the date 17 April 1917 for the six generals above him in the Rangliste of the same year does not apply to him at all? Looking at the Rangliste 1918, this must be the case, now other generals with Patent dates 29 August 1917 and 14 December 1917 are in front of him. The Prussian Ranglisten seem to be clearer, even if an officer is ernannt and therefore without Patent, at least they give an exact date.
    19. Gentlemen, I am following and making notes. Let me see, if I get it right: Oberst on 30 November 1914 Generalmajor (ernannt) without Patent on 17 April 1917 (where does the date 12 April 1916 come from? Maybe rank seniority?) Patent as Generalmajor received on 16 June 1920 Generalleutnant on 1 July 1921 Does anyone have a complete list of WWI decorations? Thanks!
    20. He received the China Commemorative Medal (China-Denkmünze) in Steel for non-combatants in 1901. But don't forget, he was in China from 1933 to 1935, so it seems possible he received something from Chiang Kai-shek.
    21. Gentlemen, Klaus-Henning von Schmeling-Diringshofen seems to be wearing 2 (?) ribbons. He served in China from 1934 to 1938. They are surely not from the Reichswehr, and he was KIA in September 1939. So what could the ribbons be? Flower Medals, or, what I am hoping for, something Chinese from Chiang Kai-shek. Any help would be great. Thanks!
