Hello Graf, you did not upset me - I would like to learn more about Bulgarian orders... This piece does clearly show a lower quality than some other 1941 4th classes - therefor my question about the maker. I got this piece really cheap - the dealer had no idea what it was and it came from the estate of a former German officer, unfortunatly without any papers. If it has been made up from two pieces - than it has not been done to fool the collector - maybe it was a replacment for the damaged awarded cross made on behalf of the owner ... ? Of course ! "Dienst- und Rangabzeichen der Offiziere und Beamten der Königlich Bayerischen Armee 1806-1918" by Walter Seibold and Gerd M. Schulz ISBN 3-00-017435-4 published 2005 but the publishing house (Bayerischer Militärverlag Gerd M. Schulz) is no longer existing. The remaining stock was sold of 3 or 4 years ago. The book is still available in Germany by some shops... I guess it costs about 49 Euro - 174 pages, hundreds of illustrations, most in colour ! Regards jaeger7-de

Okay, it should be the Mod. 1850 Epauletts. If the colour is "Krapprot" the silver metal part would make them Cavalry (3. Kürassier or 1. or 2. or 3. Ulanen or 1. or 2. Chevaulegers Regiment). If it is a darkend Ponceaurot it might also be Infantry but I don't think so. Hope this helps.

He should be a Matrose from an Austrian SEEFLIEGERABTEILUNG. The two stripes above the "Specialitätenabzeichen" are called "Quartierstreifen" and are (as far as I understand the Austrian system) a kind of unit identification in larger formations. Regards jaeger7-de

STOOOOP ! No need to bang your head.... He was Hans Karl von Winterfeld. In 1934 he was »Preussischer Forstmeister« in Osterode am Harz as is written on the certificate of his "Ehrenkreuz für Frontkämpfer". Sorry for not mentioning this little fact... Regards Torsten

I do have two finnish certificates to a Leutnant from Mecklenburgisches Jägerbataillon Nr. 14. I do also have the certificates for the mecklenburgisches MVK II. + I. class. If anybody has some additional information on Lt. von Winterfeld or maybe his Iron cross documents - I would be very interested ! Regards Torsten

The badge for Sturm-Bataillon 5 was issued by the Crownprince. It was a crowned cypher "W" on an oval shield of fieldgrey cloth. And here is the pic:
