    1. Hi Thanks for posting the additional and correct information, The picture of the Kaiser is not mine but I will keep your information on file as it helps those of us who do this sort of thing Edit would you have any information on the Russian Hussars uniform the Kaiser is wearing in an earlier thread I posted regards Alex K
    2. Just another one to throw into the pot. 1914-18 British troops regards
    3. Scary looking dudes, wouldn't like to meet one in a dark alley Alex K
    4. The Aircrew Europe Star was traditionally the only one worth faking due to it's comparative rarity, hence the plethora of fakes around. However as you state, times change and as other stars become "Scarcer" the **sholes who fake this stuff now see another quick Buck, Collecting non-German stuff used to be easy. Alex
    5. I would expect better quality than the ones posted even though it is difficult to state that they are not originals. Here are mine for comparison together with a close-up of the Aircrew Europe Star deemed original on the British Medals Forum. regards Alex K
    6. Look very much like mine which I believe to be period regards Alex
    7. Excellent thanks for the quick reply. Havn't seen it posted before though. regards Alex
    8. Does anyone recognise the attached RKT proudly wearing his wartime decoration obviously post war, looks like a 1960's photo. Judging by the smirk on his face he seems to know that he shouldn't be wearing it in public! regards Alex
    9. And why is it in English?
    10. You are of course quite right, silly of me, I never noticed funnilly enough that one was straight and the other one wasn't, I was trying to highlight the differences as to the way the suspensions are attached to the coin. regards
    11. yes WWII, made by S & L MM4, mine attached for comparison. same hardware on the reverse, but mine isn't marked regards Alex K
    12. Congratulations on a nice researchable piece of history Alex K
    13. On a slight side note, attached is a Romanian Order of the Crown, 3rd class commander which does appear to have floated around the better part of Europe before finding it's final home! To summarise the marks on this badge: These are the markings stamped o the piece Small ring: - KF - indicating Karl Fischmeister of Vienna? - swan - French import mark? - A with a dot beneath - Vienna city assay office mark - unknown - could be an Austrian mark for silver - dolphins - Romanian mark for silver Suspension loop: - two As (I did not understand whether there is one mark with two As, or two marks each an A) - unknown yet This is an interesting collection of marks. It could indicate a badge manufactured in Austria, sent to Romania and subsequently awarded to a Frenchman and therefore exported to France.
    14. Post deleted after further information Alex
    15. It's about the suspension, attached is an image of a standard and Calcutta mint suspension, the difference is quite marked. Sorry if this is an old post but hey what the heck! regards Alex
    16. Just to re-alight this thread, my offering, to Pte W Rice 2/Somerset L.Infantry, Calcutta mint Alex
    17. My Humble offering of my IGS medal 1895 to 4959 Pte M Ryan 2nd Btn Ryl IR Regiment, Calcutta mint regards Alex
    18. Bertrand of Paris did produce eastern European decorations and in my opinion added his own touches to then hence the slightly different eagles. Attached are two examples of the Romanian Order of the Crown, (OK one's got the wrong ribbon), the Fifth class made in Romania, the fourth gold class made by Bertrand, notice the subtle differences on his award. regards Alex
    19. Yet another one, this one is one of the many excellent portraits posted by Robert Noss, he really does manage to find some interesting images, It's of Lt Werner Gunther.? I hope you don't mind Robert regards Alex?
    20. All that I have regards Alex
    21. Hi Ed, no need to be silent, as mentioned in my post, I am happy to be corrected if my assumptions as to the owner of the phrase was incorrect I am happy to be corrected. To me it just seems strange that those who have spent a (Political) life defiling religion suddenly become emamoured by it when a pretty gong is waved in front of their noses regards Alex
    22. A bit like Stalin being awarded to order of Pius for his services to the Pope, Vatican and mankind in genereal then? Apologies if this sounds slightly flippant, but whilst I agree that religion in the end to quote Lenin or was it Karl Marx/ Stalin (From memory but I could be wrong) Religion is the opium of the masses, and whilst the masses could indulge in their addiction, the true leaders of these athiest states had no truck with it. Times appear to have changed. I recall that when things started to go T*ts up fpr Stalin in 1941-42 etc he decided to re-invent religion to get the natives to fight for a "Holy Mother Russia" after spending previous decades destroying it regards On a lighter note, nice gongs
