    4. Kim, I have recently obtained one of these silver medals. I was surprised to read in your post that between 1900-1941 you could easily check out the recipient. The medal I have is named to Frans Emil Karlsson and on the rim is silver 1921. Could you oblige with a look up for this and tell me something about this person. Any information would be much appreciated. Regards, Jim Morrison
    5. Thanks to all who have responded to the initial question. When I was given this, with one other rather tatty one ,which thanks to pluribus I now know that it was intended for Burma. Initially to me, a medal collector they were just little bits of worthless paper. But now that I know a little bit more about them, I see them in a different light. Jim Morrison.
    6. Pluribus, Thank you for the information on this subject. Now I at least know where it came from. Thanks again. Jim Morrison..
    7. Sorry about the size of the pictures, spelling and typing errors. Jim Morrison.

    10. Fantasy Orders? I have seen decorations like these listed under International Orders,in dealer's lists. ie Order of St. Catherine of Mount Sinai, Order of St George of Burgandy and the Equestrian Order of St. Mary of Bethlehem. They are not cheap. So what constitutes an International Order??? Jim Morrison.
    11. Extreemly interesting and informative posts on the Order of Labour. I have learned quite a bit from this. However, this may be an elementary question, but what was the criteria for the glod, silver and bronze awards? Jim Morrison.
    12. Roeland, The Italian Order of Merit was instituted on the 3rd. March1951. The order can be conferred on both men and women, italians and foreigners for services to the nation in the fields of science, leterature, art and trade, and for services in the promotion of public welfare and to social philanthropic or humanitarian undertakings. It can also be awarded for outstanding civil or military service. The order has 5 classes, Grand Cross. Grand Officer. Commander. Officer, Knight. From your drawing I would guess that it is the 5th Class . Hope this is of some help. REgards, Jim Morrison.
    13. Alex, What brilliant pictures of your latest aquisition. Thanks for showing them. Regards, Jim Morrison.
    14. Owain, Interesting post. I worked for a while in Riyadh 26 years ago. Even then it was difficult to find anything in the souks and the unofficial tailors were reluctant to sell to "Kawagers" (I think that is what we were called. Forgotten a lot of the Arabic that I knew) So things have not really changed all that much medal -wise in the kingdom! Thanks for the input and information. Regards, Jim Morrison.
    15. Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread. I have really learned a fair bit about this badge, especially as I did not know a thing about it before posting on this subject. Regards, Jim Morrison.
    16. Thanks Ed. You are corect in naming it Security Medal. I have today been informed on another forum that it is the Security Medal, one of a series of 12 maedals instituted by the KSA in 1987. An estimated 100,000 being manufactured (ref. article in JOMSA Vol56 #1 2005) Medal manufactured under contract in the UK by the medalists Thomas Fattorini. Principally an award for Saudi Military and Civil personnel it could also be awarded to nominated allied personnel. Regards, Jm Morrison.
    17. hunyadi, Thanks for the information. At least I know what it now is and what it was for. I did have a slight idea that it might date from the 50's. Thanks again. Jim Morrison.
    18. Not 100% sure about this one, but I believe it to be a Saudi Arabian National Guard long service medal (Nuth al-Amin) Would appreciate any information on this.
    19. Hunyadi, Thanks for the welcome to GMIC. Here is a picture of the badge I have (Just hope that I have managed to crack the knack of posting pictures. Any idea of the date or period of this award? Regards, Jim Morrison.
    20. What a fantastic display of Arabic Orders and Medals! Glad to know that Ed. is rebuilding his site. It was a great loss to many when it was vandalised...I personally used it quite extensivly, it was a great source of knowledge which was not readily available elsewhere. Thanks to Ed and the others for the excellence of the pictures and information available. regards, Jim Morrison
    21. I am a new member and have found the information on kivalo dolgozol badges extreemly interesting as I have had one of these for a couple of years and did not really know what it was. The one I have is contained in its original red box with a miniature stickpin, but no document. It is the type with a bronze 5 pointed star on a brass wreath of laurels (I think). The centre piece is circular with a fine pebbled finish with the words Kivalo Dolgozol in the centre with the words Abelkerskedelem above. It was one of those items that you sometimes comeby but can never reall find out much about it. I will post a picture once I figure out how to do it on this forum. Regards, Jim Morrison.
    22. Greetings, I am a new member to this forum and I was really please to find some information on the Azerbaijan and the Rastakhiz medal complete with photographs which I think were mine posted on another forum while seeking information. (Not complaining) As stated, information on medals of this era appears to be very limited and it is at least satisfying to be able to put a name to them. Thanks to Ed Haynes who I remember from other medal forums for naming them and supplying dates. Thanks and regards, Jim Morrison.
