    1. So was this awarded to the couple as a unit (one medal and doc for two people), or did the husband and wife each get their own medal?
    2. Thanks! No good questions are coming to mind, so I'm passing my turn to first person who takes it.
    3. From wikipedia: "The only man to be awarded the title was Veniamin Makarov (Макаров, Вениамин Петрович) from Orenburg, who raised 12 adopted boys.[1]" -Alex
    4. I head from him too. I quote from his message: "[The research process] does get better and better. I am receiving more and more documents on a monthly basis now. Although some mess and backlog still exists, the stalemate is over." None of my stuff has come in yet, but I have great hope for the near future!
    5. What do you think of this? http://collectrussia.com/DISPITEM.HTM?ITEM=19986 :speechless1:
    6. Last time Russian Glory was updated back in Feb. they had one for $1,350. Collect Russian just had a cased example not too long ago, but it appears it has been sold.
    7. Yeah, I know. But these do look a tad better than some of the others I've seen.
    8. Another set just appeared on ebay too. Search "soviet group" and you'll see it. Any thoughts on this one? The documents look bad to me, but are the medals perhaps real?
    9. Collect Russia has the 60th Anniversary badge at $165 and the 70th Anniversary at $95. Of course, this is probably a rather high estimate, knowing this particular dealer I don't know about the large medal. What is it anyway?
    10. Oh, good That helps a little. Can we get some more hints, like: 1. Was the item directly related to chess (a board, clock, pieces)? 2. Did it belong to a prominent soviet chess player, or just a prominent soviet? -Alex
    11. Random guess here (I mean, really random). Something chess related?
    12. When I went to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo two years ago (I think) the Moscow Military Conservatory performed. They were excellent! I think the director was a lieutenant-colonel. Correct me if I am wrong. I took a picture with him (posted below, minus me). He has a soviet distinguished service medal 2nd class and an academy badge, plus other stuff. The conductor had a red star, but he wasn't around when I took this.
    13. I looked through some of the old Markov catalogs. Even though I could not find this specific medal, based on some of the others that I saw, I agree that this was probably from Bukhara. -Alex
    14. Was he, perhaps, Mongolian? I can't find any good info on the web about Mongolian marshalls, though, so I have absolutely no idea if I'm even close on this one.
    15. Would that be: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grigory_Kulik ??? -Alex
    16. Well, they didn't take out a whole army single-handedly like in the old days, but at least it's a little bit better than: http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=24027
    17. Haven't a clue what it is, but what a great looking badge! I've never seen that before.
    18. In the interest of not educating fakers, perhaps we should move this thread to the more protected "fakes" sub-forum.
    19. In case anyone wants to drool more (by now I've filled at least two swimming pools), check out this site: http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.collectrussia.com It has most of Collect Russia archived, so you can see both all the amazing things of the past (oh, the good old days...) and the steep uphill climb of prices. This was back when an Order of Nakhimov was $2,000, 67 times less expensive than it is today.
