Sounds like it could be a DUI for HQs, 3rd Armored Division. The photo is what the division patch looks like but I think that the DUI for HQs, 3AD would be like what you described, Bryan

First Document: Certificate for the North Korean (DPRK) Foundation Memorial Medal awarded to Gil, Jeong Gyoon on 25 Aug 1988. Born 28 feb 1939 in Pyeong An Book-Do, Gwang Shin Goon. Living in Pyeong An Book-Do, Gwang Shin-Goon at the time of the awarding Occupation: Laborer Second Document: Certificate for an Air Force Medal (does not say which one) awarded to Lim, Chung Il awarded on 23 Apr 1953 and second time on 1 Feb 1960. Born 28 Mar 1939 in Pyeong an Book-Do, Ui Ju-Goon, Gum Cheong-Ri Occupation: Master Sergeant in the North Korean People's Army Awarded the first time when he was only 14 years old and only a couple of months before the cease-fire took effect! Then looks like he stayed in the AF til at least 1960 and maybe then went into the Army? Hope this helps, Bryan -
