    1. Aha, that could explain the rough finish of this cross, although details such as the 'm' in 'im' are pretty terrible. The suspension ring also looks like a replacement.
    2. I make no claims to being an authority on Mecklenburg, just wanted to show an un-messed with example.
    3. Indeed you have some interesting relations, David. I also have my mother's family origins in Kassel.
    4. Very interesting papers indeed. And of course what made Tsingtau a good beer was the importation of German brew-masters to oversee production. Don't forget the Reinheitsgebot!
    5. I have a medal bar which glows under UV and which I originally dismissed as a fake. Apparently there is a good chance that the ribbons were cleaned at some point, which could explain the fluorescence.
    6. That's true, although I believe Louis-Ferdinand continued serving as a Luftwaffe officer after this ordnance.
    7. Yes, but I think my ancestor's nephew, Carl Sigismund Kunth, is more interesting. He was an intimate associate of Alexander von Humboldt and was a founder, along with Bonpland, of the Berlin Botanical Museum. Of course the material for this museum came from the famous Orinoco expedition.
    8. Thanks for looking into the connection. The reason I ask is that my great-great-great grandfather was the Erzieher of the Humboldt brothers, his name was Gottlob Johann Christian Kunth, and he is buried on the Humboldt estate at Tegel.
    9. I would give the Aerodrome forum a try, I've been a long time member there and they are very knowledgeable.
