He's right...I guess I'll move into Civil War, or Indian artifacts, where there's no fakes. Maybe collect Luis Vuitton bags, or Chanel stuff, there's no fakes there either. I could smoke fine Cuban cigars, cuz I wouldn't have to worry about getting a fake one of those either. Wait! How about 1813 & 1870 Iron Crosses! Now there's a field where I don't have to worry about getting burned. Some people....

No info on the sellers, but let's hope your friend's lesson on "Know what you're buying" isn't going to be too expensive... best Hank -
Help with document translation please
hankmeister replied to Humberto Corado's topic in State, Civil Awards & Decorations
My German isn't perfect, but here's a fairly close translation. It's pretty standard on these civil docs. I issue this document with the expectation that the named loyally and conscientiously follows his oath of office, as conferred by this appointment. At the same time I promise my special protection to him. -
EK 1939 "L13" Iron Cross, 2nd Class, 1939
hankmeister replied to Bill Garvy's topic in Germany: All Eras: The Iron Cross
Bill - great cross. But just to play the devils advocate, have you compared this to a "113"? I saw this for sale too, and the big split in the ring made me wonder. I don't have one, but I was just wondering if this might possibly be a damaged (on the ring only) 113... Best, Hank -

Nice. Once you run out of room for your EKs, you can start storing them at my house! Hank -

You need to get your money back. You will have a VERY hard time trading this for something else worth 2000 euros. Hank -
Kriegsmarine Help with u-boat docs
hankmeister replied to Richard Sysum's topic in Wehrmacht Medals, Decorations & Awards
Hi Richard, Any chance of pictures? Hard to say based on this description. Depends on condition of documents, what style/size, what ship, rank of awardee, etc. I'd guess-timate somewhere around $100 as a low price if the docs are in just okay condition (and it's only these 2) and then go up from there. Pics are really necessary to be more precise. Hope that helps Hank -

-U-boat wehrpass
hankmeister replied to Richard Sysum's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Research, Documentation & Photographs
Well, I tried google for Mudania, and came up with this: http://www.telecable.es/personales/submari...ith/nasmith.htm Not sure what it's about, as I don't read spanish, but looks to be a difficult voyage by a sub. So maybe it was some sort of navigation award, named after ...? Shot in the dark, but might lead in the right direction. Hank -
The first photo is more likely "Albert Stein", not Herbert Klein. Compare the "A" in "aufgenommen". And I believe it says "Aufgenommen vom Quartierherr". Not sure what that is, sort of maybe a barracks boss? Second looks like "Meiner kleinen treuen Irmtraut", I believe that Irmtraut could be a womans name. Hope that helped a bit, Hank

Unique document
hankmeister replied to Paul R's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Uniforms, Headwear, Insignia & Equipment
It's definitely "Osterr.". You can compare r's and n's throughout the text. Hank -
-U-boat wehrpass
hankmeister replied to Richard Sysum's topic in Germany: Third Reich: Research, Documentation & Photographs
It looks to me like it was written at the same time...the U-boat abz. and EK 2 aren't in order either... Is there any other writing by the same hand in the wehrpass? Just by comparing to the other entries on that page, I get "..auia" as the last 4 letters. To me it could be a "d" or a "ch" preceding it. Might start with "M" but I'm not convinced of that. Very interesting! Hank -

Kriegsmarine U-boat DKiG doc set value

Assuming they are in good shape, around $2000 I would imagine. Possibly more, as KM docs always seem to be 3rd to SS and FJ stuff in price...
