    1. While thumbing through my HJ photos I came across this photo of a DJ boy seated on the historical family chest (Truhe). A pre war snapshot.
    2. I agree, Band of the Grenadier Guards of the Netherlands. During their existance the uniform changed slightly in some detail.
    3. Thanks Dave, you're just ahead of me. Regarding photo 1, to me it looks like a Roman numeral IV, indicating that he is on the staff of Wehrkreis IV (Military District), Korpskommando IV (Staff of Army Corps) or Wehrersatzdienststelle IV (Replenishment Office) I would date the photo around 1939.
    4. Perhaps this may be of help: Lederer: promoted Oberst (01-03-1942), in 1944 Kdr. Pz.Jäg.Abt. 6 (6. Inf.Div.); in 1939 as Major Kdr. Pz.Jäg.Abt. 6 Harald Stolz: promoted Oberst (01-05-1943), in 1944 on the Staff of 13. Pz.Gren.Div. As Obstlt and Kdr. Kradsch.Btl. 43 he was awarded RK (28-08-42)
    5. Photo No.2 is a Heeresverwaltungsbeamter auf Kriegsdauer. Photo No.4 is a memer of the NSFK in Ausgehanzug (Walking-out dress
    6. Fahnen- und Abzeichen-Fabrik M.FLECK & SOHN (gegr. 1882) Michaelisstrasse 8 Hamburg 3 [1933]
    7. A new portrait arrived in my collection, Generalarbeitsführer Faatz (AG XXV). Does any one know what tinny he wears (over the Hessen-Darmstadt Krieger-Ehrenzeichen (1917)?
    8. Hi Hugh, I have been a collector of RN medals from the 19th and early 20th centuries for donkeys' years, but now I am more concentrating on Naval uniforms and insignia. Still I am a member of the Naval Historical Collectors and Research Association, and I think that you could ask the Societies librarian. In the past years the Review (the magazine of the Society) has published a wealth of articles about Naval history and ships' histories in particular. He might be able to help you further. Their website: http://www.nhcra-online.org/main.html By the way, has Mr Barlow tried the records of the former PRO? Also, a post on the researchers bulletin board of the OMRS might be a venue... As I do not have the research potential here, and I would be interested in the result of your quest. Best of luck! Odulf
    9. Are you sure it is a "G"? To me it looks like an "S", indicating Service Battalions.
    10. The general idea is to make Police Officers look less offensive and cut on uniform cost; so NO uniform (with authoritive buttons), NO recognicion (like an impressive badge), NO sign of any authority (no handcuffs, truncheon, weapon, radio, teargas cannisters), and please NOT to radiate anything corrective or public authority business. In fact the helmet/head dress is an offence also, a bright coloured beany or baseball cap is better, or the best is no headdress at all! Police are there to serve, not to offend. Even the black dress as such is a fascist outrage to impose fear on the general public. I suggest an orange hat (diced band), with yellow shirts/jackets and pink trouwsers, and armed with a bright smile would do better. Instead, arm Police Officers with lots of charism, whit, superb health, a bulletproof vest, and a black belt in karate. By the way, was this the choice of the general public or just a ludicrous notion of police committees?
    11. Interesting topic! I will add some of my collection of Roman fallus symbols, carried by many soldiers as a good-luck charm.
    12. Button = Merchant Navy Braid = Engineer Lieutenant RN Ribbons = Korea Medal, 1939-45 Star, Burma Star, Defence Medal Odd that the ribbon for the War Medal 1939-45 is not included. The braid with curl is typical for RN, MN braid usually have a square (see enclosure) but perhaps some MN used the RN type of braid.
    13. Since long I have this snapshot of a German tank with (what looks to me like) a mobile bridge on top. On the reverse it is marked "Russland 1941". Does any one have more information about this vehicle?
