    1. "Nalaikh" means to be quiet, calm or at peace.... "Jil" means years....so 10 or 40 years or something... but I haven't found the badge yet..... It's a NIB but I get the feeling it might have a buddhist relationship in some way... the at peace bit with the Book at the bottom... Anyway it's a theory... Cheers JC
    2. #1 is culture badge S 41...." 10 days of the culture, the Uvurkhangai province" #3 resembles badge S 27.....military song and dance ensemble... but ut's a NIB JC

Well, it finally came in... I managed to find a first type, 9 year long service medal! Thanks to James for the proper identification of this medal! Anyway some good pictures that show a lot more detail than in the ones we had... This has a replacement ribbon for sure, but the medal shows nice signs of age. Enjoy! JC ps. This is the same medal posted in the other thread mentioned by Ed.
    4. So I went to a Sushi place with the wife today, and is usually the case in Toronto, it was run by people other than the Japanese. I had with me a printout of the reverse of this medal and I thought what the hell let me ask the nice Chinese lady if she can read the characters... Well it took no time at all, as these are rather common characters... It was funny to see how excited she got. This is a rather nice establishment but she insisted on passing it around and gave me several pronounciations for the characters. In Mandarin and Cantonese.... She suggested that Mandarin would be the language of choice given its origins. So here is the translation and the pronunciation of the four characters from the top one down. "Qin" which can mean hard working or hard studying "Jin" Respect "Zhong" The "Zh" is a hard sound, not the buzzing sound like we have in English and it means Loyalty "Cheng" Sincerity Not the answer I was hoping for but still interesting.. Cheers JC

I had a look around at various dealer websites to see what I could find and of the dozen or so I checked only Liverpoolmedals had any... They have a nice bravery medal for sale too!!! JC liverpool malawi
    7. HI there, This should be categorised under the "Z" section in Dr.B's book. It is more of a district badge than a province badge but I think it qualifies. The slogan at the top reads something like, "Communism for the sake of unity" or something to that effect, and the bottom says the "Khaliun district" which is to be found in the Gobi-Altai province. Hope that helped! Cheers JC
    8. So when should I expect an email from Mr.Markov???? I've heared nothing so far and by the looks of it I should have won several pieces including the #5 D03.... weird... JC

    12. Wow that's one confusing award.... Emedals.ca has three different variations for sale ranging from $650 to $5000... What about that enameled one on page 3? Weird! JC
    13. Number 1785 with case for sale on ebay right now. $3500 buy it now or $3000 starting bid... This one was sold by Alexei back in January '07 and it's posted here somewhere but not in this thread... JC

    15. I don't think this has been posted before so here goes.... It's the website of the President of Mongolia, and it lists all the ODM. Bad pictures but it's worth a quick look... JC ODM list
    16. Market Value is of interest to me for one reason and one reason only. It determines what I can and can't buy. I don't sell anything anyway, just can't bring myself to do it.. Can't wait 'till I get a job JC
    17. I don't know about those Soyombo prices though Bob.. That one on collectrussia hasn't gone anywhere in a month or so and with the current financial issues who knows. There has to be a limit to what people will pay for these things, Rare they are, but how many dedicated Mongolian collectors are out there? A handfull perhaps Makes me getting one seem less likely though!! Cheers JC

    20. What do you guys think of this one???? $500 a little much????? I think it's a nice looking one, the best looking enamel I've seen on these but I think Barry put some numbers on his wall and used some darts to determine the price... Cheers. JC serial236
    21. Hi there Gordon, Congrats on your Daughter's graduation and I'll be here for sure! Cheers JC
    22. You think they'll take my car in trade for the hero??? No???,didn't think so either.........!!!! Bob you started a thread a while back about a certain dagger that sold on ebay........ Well guess what it's up for sale in this sale!!! I got screwed, big time!! That'll teach me for paying with a moneyorder!! Great looking auction!!
    23. Well, here is the thing.... It appears that two medals have ink on them... this happens, and it may be nothing but why doesn't the oldest medal have it also? Anyway it's just a theory and anything is possible but it seems likely to me that the oldest would have it too. I didn't know the man, perhaps he liked to play with his medals and one day he spilled ink on them and just managed to save the 1904-5 medal from getting hit. Who knows.... JC
