These were originaly posted on another Forum I belong to by a Russian member, who at the moment is suspended for flaming and comments unbecoming, he did not reveal where he obtained the items, but, I believe he is a former member of the Soviet Air-force. The "Der Spiegal" story mentions the members Forum user name, but, I doubt they went as far as to ask his permission if they could use his pictures before running the story. Kevin in Deva.

Hallo Gents, a guy I know sent me an email asking about a medal which belonged to his great Grandfather his attempts to attach a picture, so far have failed, however he has added the details of what was on the medal, which I presume is a commemorative piece. Will add pictures once I receive them from him. Kevin in Deva.

Romania Romanian Fire Brigade
Kev in Deva replied to Greg Collins's topic in Central & Eastern European States
Hallo Greg, Thanks for taking the time to post your items, some of which I have not seen before I was talking to an officer of the Romanian Fire Brigade at September 09, "Day of the Fire-Brigade" in Deva, and he informed me that even up to that period, the Fire-brigade was still part of the Military Administration, but, gone were the days of the Firemen being part of the military conscripts, with camo-uniforms and being weapons trained on the Kalashnikov. The sentry boxes on most fire stations have been discontinued as well, in the early days, post communism period, it was not unusual to see a rifle wielding sentry or simply armed with a bayonet on his belt on watch. Today they are looking for volunteers willing to commit for "x" amount of years and there are even some private fire brigades coming into operation. Kevin in Deva. -

Soviet Cossack medal
Kev in Deva replied to Signalcorps45's topic in Russia: Soviet Orders, Medals & Decorations
I believe this is one of a series of modern commemorative medals being churned out in Russia at the moment. Private purchase with no official backing. Falls into the "Bling-Bling" section. Many of these items would look better on a key chain especially judging by there "quality". Kevin in Deva. -
Could F.A.D. be classed as an early R.A.D. Dad Joking aside. the guy in the middle appears to be standing on a folding wooden step-ladder, part of the wood and hinge, below this letters, show under him, and the paint splattered jacket on at least two guys would indicate some type of pioneer of construction Korps.
