    1. All Souls Day November 1st 2007. Mrs. Ryan next to the grave. Kevin in Deva
    2. Hallo Gents during the summer I located this neglected grave to 6 German soldiers from WW1. On Wednesday 31st I cleaned away some of the overgrowth: Kevin in Deva
    3. Looks better with some light thrown on the subject, and personally I would not clean it apart from a light brush up with an old tooth brush. Kevin in Deva
    4. Hallo Is this the same item up for sale on ebay?? <a href="http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Kingdom-of-Serbia-Or...1QQcmdZViewItem" target="_blank">http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Kingdom-of-Serbia-Or...1QQcmdZViewItem</a> If it is the seller makes no mention that the back is possibly a replacement! Kevin in Deva
    5. Hallo Rick, many thanks as usual for your encyclopedic knowledge, its just uncanny to us mere mortals how you do it!! Kevin in Deva
    6. Hallo Gents, this has been posted on another forum, can anybody offer and identification of the unit? which period, the seated man has a medal ribbon on his tunic, African service?? Kevin in Deva.
    7. Hallo dond, thanks for your reply, the coffee has not kicked in just yet, but I seem to recall mention of double cores?? http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=4976 http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=4995 or have I got the cart before the horse For a good understanding of the composition, I feel that the whole of this section of The Iron Cross 1813 - 1918 will have to be read as a refresher. I believe in one post there is a picture showing how the crosses were made and the component pieces. The sound comes from the core hitting the frame. And yes some are clamped very tight and make no sound. And don't forget the ones made in brass, one-piece for the Navy, as the normal ones tended to rust in the sea-air and stain the sailors uniforms. Kevin in Deva.
    8. Hallo Gents, the use of a knife is obvious even for air-crew, to cut parachute shroud lines, especially if landing in water and to use as a survival item. The picture shown of the soldier above comes from part of a well known propaganda movie shot by the Germans in the Battle of the Bulge event, of course all the troops and equipment carried were the real deal. Kevin in Deva.
    9. Hallo love4history, all this does is verify that its a multi-part construction, that is two Iron pieces (front & back) sandwiched into the silver rim. Kevin in Deva.
    10. Hallo Claudiu I have only ever come across reference to bomber crew carrying helmets, I am sure it would never come from an escorting fighter, and of course we know that no US troops were ever in service in Romania in WW2. Kevin in Deva.
    11. Hallo Claudiu, the Ploiesti, Romania, connection is interesting, might it have come from any of the US bombers shot down in the bombing raids on the oilfields? I seem to recall pictures of American Aircrew wearing helmets as protection from Flak. Kevin in Deva.
    12. Hallo Gents, in Mr. Robin Lumsden's book from 1987 "A Collector's Guide to Third Reich Militaria. page 34: * As this was stated in 1987, I believe it to be no longer a relevant statement, with the number of Fake Nazi Items that can be encountered in the year 2007 Peter yours seems to have traces of Gilt? And I think Paul was saying the item pictured is a modern Fantasy reproduction, and not that he disbelieves in its creation back in WW2. Kevin in Deva.
    13. Buna Zia claudiu, Looks very like the model worn by the West-German Army post WW2, to me, but I would deffer my opinion to more learned members of the G.M.I.C. Kevin in Deva.
    14. Hallo Gents, I would have to agree with the "old fart" noway does it rate 500 Euro!! Kevin in Deva.
    15. Hallo Gents I think its best to measure this item, so as to gather information on possible variations. The measurements on mine are: Silver Wreath; Height: 42mm Wide: 45mm Ribbon width: 33mm. Maker Mark: "M.HEINLOTH" interestingly enough the upper part of the letter "E" is not complete, and the lower right leg of the "H" is incomplete!!! Kevin in Deva.
    16. Hallo Brian, I believe VERBRUGGEN to have Dutch or Belgian connections. Kevin in Deva.
    17. Hallo joetauchretter Interesting picture, judging by her obvious connection to the D.R.K. (Deutsche Rot Kreuz) the ribbons are probably for service to that organisation, I believe it also states in the article, that she herself was wounded on the East Front. Kevin in Deva.
    18. Hallo Iraqi Militaria He also appears to be wearing the Turkish (so called) Gallipoli Star as well on his right breast, indicating more of a Turkish Military connection than Iraqi. A "Iraqi-Arab" member who has service in the forces of the Otterman Empire. Kevin in Deva
    19. Hallo Gents, Now heres one you dont see every day!! http://cgi.ebay.com/STAINED-GLASS-WORLD-WA...1QQcmdZViewItem WWI Memorial Stained Glass Window. This WWI stained glass Memorial window was discovered on Vancouver Island BC . Now offered for sale worldwide to be appreciated and displayed in memory of the immense sacrifice made in 1917 at the battle of Passchendaele, west Flanders, Belgium. Sometime called, Third Battle of Ypres. The building in the background upper right quarter is a representation of the Cloth Hall built in the thirteenth century. Ypres was in an important position during WWI as it stood in the path of Germanys planned sweep across the rest of Belgium and into France. The mother of one of the lost soldiers at this battlefield commissioned the window to be built in memory of her son. This window is a fine representation of the enormous suffering and loss of life caused by any war. Inside frame measurements are 94 inches tall and 29.5 inches wide. Kevin in Deva.
    20. Sorry Christian I must apologize, here I used the word "German" by mistake for Italian, I will correct it in my posts, my point is I do not see why you needed to raise the concern that the item was "stolen" as there are a few possibilities to how an Italian / German, etc.. etc.. could obtain it, A, taken from a Russian Soldier, B,found amongst abandoned equipment, C,Found in a enemy position, D,Given to him by a German or Russian. Kevin in Deva.
    21. Dear Christian, sorry if you misunderstand what I was referring too in my post, the question you asked him was; *My underline of your words. Surely, after all these years, it does not matter how it was acquired, as I said in my previous post "I think it is well documented fact, that soldiers on all sides, in all conflicts, have managed to appropriate each others medals, badges and insignias!! I can not recall any one on any of the websites and forums ever bring the word "stole" into play. The way you have phrased the question gives the indication only a Germans Italian, could do such a thing, and we all know that soldiers acquire "War Booty" regardless of what nation they are from. Kevin in Deva.
    22. Dear Christian, And without any evidence to prove otherwise, such a statement as above is meaningless, I think it is well documented fact, that soldiers on all sides, in all conflicts, have managed to appropriate each others medals, badges and insignias!! So let he who has not sinned cast the first stone. Kevin in Deva.
    23. Hallo Gents, Could some of our more informed members of the Soviet section offer a translation with regards the person featured in the link, and maybe the words of the song as well?? Kevin in Deva.
