Chris Boonzaier Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 My scanner is down so it will be a bit of time till I can play with youse... but how about a thread showing the ugliest WW1 EKs...Those with the cores with details that look as if they were made out of pudding, rims made out of cheap tinfoil....There are some uuuuuugly ones out there.....
Tom Y Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 I think this qualifies. It's unmarked, but has all the earmarks of a MEH. I guess they were ashamed to admit to it
Chris Boonzaier Posted August 25, 2006 Author Posted August 25, 2006 Thats IT !?!?!?The rest of you only married to princesses? Noone got an ugly one stashed away?Man... when my computer is working properly again.... you will see REALLY ugly !
Tony Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 I don't think this one is ugly either and just love the crown. It's unmarked, anyone know who the maker could be?Tony
gregM Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Here is one with great attachment system[attachmentid=51389]
Daniel Murphy Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 You have to understand. There are two types of ugly. Just plain ugly like this one with a shattered core. It is now in 5 pieces and rattles around in the frame. Dan
Daniel Murphy Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 (edited) Then there is "What the F#*& is that? Hide the women and children! " UUGGLLYY !! Dan Edited August 27, 2006 by Daniel Murphy
gregM Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 You don't judge a book by it's cover.What is ugly on one side----[attachmentid=51610]
gregM Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 Can be quite nice on the other----- [attachmentid=51612]
Daniel Murphy Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 (edited) Tom, You need a new prescription. That MEH is marked. I can see it on the photo. Tony, that first one you posted has more pock marks than the local zit freak. Was it dug? I am willing to bet the second one has a stamped core, that high relief crown is a dead giveaway. No idea on maker though. Greg, that safety pin definitely fits the bill. OK, you have one, but you know you are the princess type. Especially if that second one is your idea of ugly. Puleese. If this were a competition I think I would wib hands down for that brass one. It doesn't get more pitifull than that. Dan Edited August 27, 2006 by Daniel Murphy
gregM Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 Dan,You caught me. It's the story of my life--I could never afford the beauty queens so I settle for 2nd or 3rd runner up.
Laurence Strong Posted August 27, 2006 Posted August 27, 2006 I am curious to see the "ugly Mofo" that started this thread
Daniel Murphy Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 (edited) Chris, Thats what you call ugly? Now who's the princess type? That is a very nice looking stamped core spangenstueck with most of the original frosting intact. You can't do any better (worse?) than that?Dan Still reigning "ugly mofo" champion Edited September 6, 2006 by Daniel Murphy

buellmeister Posted March 20, 2007 Posted March 20, 2007 Great thread! C'mon guys there have to be more in the dark recesses of your medal cases...Joel
Steve campbell Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 Here's a couple that aren't mint. Not terrible, but i hope they can fir into this thread. First an EK2 marked 800 on the ring.
Steve campbell Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 Here's an EK1 that's seen better days. This is a variant core, perhaps silvered copper.
Eric Stahlhut Posted May 26, 2008 Posted May 26, 2008 (edited) one piece brass or tombak Edited May 26, 2008 by Eric Stahlhut
