Chris Boonzaier Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 All guns changed to german specs and legal! This basically concerns the bolt and barrel, so we are way luckier than our friends in the states. The 08/15 is just keeping the place warm.... next month I go to fetch the 08.. :-)))))
Chris Boonzaier Posted October 11, 2006 Author Posted October 11, 2006 On the 08/15 I had to take it to a gunsmith in Canada to get some extra holes drilled in the barrel so I could bring it to germany... but it is no big deal as you dont see the barrel at all anyway....
Chris Boonzaier Posted October 11, 2006 Author Posted October 11, 2006 Bullets are emtied as well... but display well....
Paul R Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 Great display!! What had to be done to the bolt to make it legal?
Daniel Murphy Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Chris, Glad you were able to get it. I just love a sled that has been banged about, those dents from the shrapnel balls and shell splinters add great character. Does the serial # match between gun and sled? Mine does not and it is not unusual, but I think they originally should have. Nice patronenkasten 08 and 15, the early ones are hard to find. I have a VERY early brass mounted one in the same style, made by Vickers Son's & Maxim for the MG01s. It is the only one I have seen like it. Nice ZF 12 in the early "kidney" case, too. I suggest some pads like used for furniture legs to protect the floor. It is odd, that 08/15 looks at home there. Reminds me of the MG 08/18, which was an aircooled MG 08/15 that could be tripod mounted. Experimental only though. Please post some more pics when you get the 08. If you ever come to the states and make it to the Maryland area, we can take mine out and fire it live. I have 1200rds in belts just waiting for the next trip to the range. And then there is the MP 18 I..... Dan

JensF. Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Is the Patronenkasten 08 the wooden one and 15 the one in steel?Chris, Glad you were able to get it. Mark M Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 ChrisThat is soooooooo unfair! But I have to ask if you bought it in Canada how did you get it back to Germany? Mark
Chris Boonzaier Posted November 7, 2006 Author Posted November 7, 2006 ChrisThat is soooooooo unfair! But I have to ask if you bought it in Canada how did you get it back to Germany? MarkI flew back with it as my second piece of luggage.Had a few folks puzzle over it at the airport on both sides... but in the end it was OK.
Chris Boonzaier Posted November 7, 2006 Author Posted November 7, 2006 Great display!! What had to be done to the bolt to make it legal?Hi,The one side of the bolt is ground down so it cannot extract the cartirdges, the chamber is welded so no bullet can enter, and the barrel has holes bored in it.
MG1918 Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Chris I know this is an old thread and your collection has moved on considerably, but I would be interested to know how the 08/15 was fitted to the sled? thanks, Mark
Chris Boonzaier Posted January 20, 2013 Author Posted January 20, 2013 Hi Mark, veeeeeeery carefully balanced... if the cat hat farted in the room it would have fallen off...
MG1918 Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 Ok. In the USA there was an 08/15 mounted on a sled on what was described as a period sled fitting to take the MG. This has yet to be verified so thought as you are repeatedly finding lovely pieces before me you had located such an item. Mark
