thought this might be of interest to the

    imperial EK admirers.

this is a cloth 1914 EK 1 of feldgrau

backing, the outer frame looks like

shoulder board type piping, with an

inner border of bullion(?) style of

    thread and moray(again,?) silk

    backing.

the paper backing has a few pin

holes in it, i think for display rather than

it having ever been attached to a uniform.

hope you enjoy the following pix.

These are very interesting, how common were these? any pictures of them ?

They really make alot of sense to have these in cloth in combat compared to the pin on

I have no problems with these, I'd be interested to see one in a photo. They make sense, but I have yet to see one in wear. But they always made sense.

    rick-

thanks for the posts of yours! very nice!

    eric-

not common at all. i've seen only mine and stogie's.

    brian-

i have no pictures to show you. sorry.

i agree strongly re: practicality. these

WERE seen in TR period, as in prev's book

    with the doctor/commander on crete.

look at how extensive the cloth equivalents

were in the luft and kriegsmarine.

    thanks for your comments.

If you gentlemen will bear with me, my old scanner went kaputt, but I have a new one waiting to be hooked up. I will then post some items which could be of interest, including the Altendorf photo.

Popping this one back to the top. We see far to few examples of these cloth pieces and I think we should all be taking a hard look at them lest we walk past one on a table some day!!

Weitze just listed a drop-dead gorgeous example of this cross for a mere 1200- Euro............ Worth saving the pix as a reference, if nothing else! :jumping:

There is a pic or two in a book I have as well that shows this in wear. I will try and scan it within the next few days.

I would love to have one of the 1939 and 1914... one day :(

I am shocked that these were not more widely used, as I bet quite a few tunics were torn when the metal badges got snagged. I am also sure that the metal badges had a tendancy to get lost pretty frequently when they fell off in the heat of action.

    Best regards
