joe campbell Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 thought this might be of interest to the imperial EK admirers.this is a cloth 1914 EK 1 of feldgraubacking, the outer frame looks likeshoulder board type piping, with aninner border of bullion(?) style ofthread and moray(again,?) silkbacking. the paper backing has a few pinholes in it, i think for display rather thanit having ever been attached to a uniform.hope you enjoy the following pix.joe
joe campbell Posted September 3, 2005 Author Posted September 3, 2005 reverse.sorry for the poor quality of pix.i still haven't figured out how toget size, rez, and space limitations together.
Stogieman Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 Looks right to me, here's another example:
Eric K. Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 These are very interesting, how common were these? any pictures of them ?They really make alot of sense to have these in cloth in combat compared to the pin onEric
Guest Brian von Etzel Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 I have no problems with these, I'd be interested to see one in a photo. They make sense, but I have yet to see one in wear. But they always made sense.
joe campbell Posted September 4, 2005 Author Posted September 4, 2005 rick-thanks for the posts of yours! very nice!eric-not common at all. i've seen only mine and stogie's.brian-i have no pictures to show you. sorry.i agree strongly re: practicality. theseWERE seen in TR period, as in prev's bookwith the doctor/commander on crete.look at how extensive the cloth equivalentswere in the luft and kriegsmarine.thanks for your comments.joe
Wild Card Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 (edited) Has anyone out there seen an actual (this is the real thing) "Hildegard" Cross?Wild Card Edited September 4, 2005 by Wild Card
VtwinVince Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 I have a photo of Luftwaffe ace Heinz Altendorf wearing the TR equivalent of this.
joe campbell Posted September 16, 2005 Author Posted September 16, 2005 vince-please post it!the only other picture i've seen is in "the iron time".thanks!joe
VtwinVince Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 If you gentlemen will bear with me, my old scanner went kaputt, but I have a new one waiting to be hooked up. I will then post some items which could be of interest, including the Altendorf photo.
Stogieman Posted September 26, 2005 Posted September 26, 2005 Popping this one back to the top. We see far to few examples of these cloth pieces and I think we should all be taking a hard look at them lest we walk past one on a table some day!!
Stogieman Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 Weitze just listed a drop-dead gorgeous example of this cross for a mere 1200- Euro............ Worth saving the pix as a reference, if nothing else!
joe campbell Posted October 7, 2005 Author Posted October 7, 2005 Imperial or TR?? oh, heck... i'll be there at weitze's site momentarily.i would imagine that these get snapped up quickly, betJEEZ!!!! 1200 euro????joe
Paul R Posted October 7, 2005 Posted October 7, 2005 There is a pic or two in a book I have as well that shows this in wear. I will try and scan it within the next few days.I would love to have one of the 1939 and 1914... one day I am shocked that these were not more widely used, as I bet quite a few tunics were torn when the metal badges got snagged. I am also sure that the metal badges had a tendancy to get lost pretty frequently when they fell off in the heat of action.Best regardsPAul
Stogieman Posted October 11, 2005 Posted October 11, 2005 Did anybody actually by this cross? If so, please add some photos to the thread when you can. Thanks!
Chris Boonzaier Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 A question... I just recieved some scans of an attributed cloth cross for the book project, somewhere I saw a photo of one being worn in WW1... does anyone know whre that could have been? Thanks Chris
