gregM Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 I have not posted anything here for some time so I thought I mightshare my new Ek1.The case is a dark burgandy with a silver embossed cross. (sorry for the bad picture)
gregM Posted October 13, 2007 Author Posted October 13, 2007 The inside is pretty standard with a dark purple tray.
Richard Gordon Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 Very nice pair Greg. Any shots of the back to show the pin set-up and marking?Rich
buellmeister Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 Greg, It certainly looks to be a very nice cased Cross. Friedlander happens to be one of my favorite Manufacturer's of these little gems. Very nice indeed my friend!Regards,Joel
joe campbell Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 how can one not love the clean lines, the detail, of this decoration????the mild wear and beautiful patina onthis particular cross evoke someonewho wore this with pride!very nice!joe
gregM Posted October 13, 2007 Author Posted October 13, 2007 (edited) The catch has been replaced at some point in time, covering up the makers mark.Other wise the back is pretty unremarkable. The hinge has the typical dip in thecenter of it that is common to Friedlander crosses but I could not get a clear picture of it.This is my first cased cross. Thanks for the great feedback. nesredep Posted October 13, 2007 Posted October 13, 2007 Hello!Nice Cased cross in good shape. Thanks for sharing. RegardsNesredep
gregM Posted October 13, 2007 Author Posted October 13, 2007 Very nice looking set. What I find interesting is that the cores of the crosses are completely different. If you notice the details of the crown and the also the dates are different.
Motorhead Posted October 14, 2007 Posted October 14, 2007 When I'm looking at my 2nd class "Fr" and "FR" your observation doesn't surprise me...a lot of different stampings and a mix of 2 cores.Micha

gregM Posted October 15, 2007 Author Posted October 15, 2007 I thought Fr and FR were two differnt makers.I thought that as well.
Motorhead Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 They are different makers! But it looks like they shared parts(or bought them from the same company).Have a look at Godet/Meybauer-same core........Micha
Mike K Posted October 15, 2007 Posted October 15, 2007 They are different makers! But it looks like they shared parts(or bought them from the same company).Have a look at Godet/Meybauer-same core........MichaExactly. I agree that FR and Fr are different more than likely different makers. When it comes to 1914 EK1s, there weren't all that many makers. Of those makers, very few of them used unique cores/frames/hardware. Most of them, in pairs or small groups, appear to have had some sort of working relationship - be that direct or through a 3rd party we'll probably never know though.RegardsMike

Glenn R Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 Very sweet Greg. I'm just trying to get back and caught up online after a forced absence. Nice to see the old cross fanatics never grow weary!!Best,Glenn.
