Paul R Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Get there as often as humanly possible. Plan a trip in December (briefly) and then a longer and more useful -- though hotter -- time this summer. 'Tis my field of academic specialisation (and medal collecting), after all.So you get paid to collect and research medals and orders?!?!? Some people have it all!!! Paul
Ed_Haynes Posted October 30, 2005 Author Posted October 30, 2005 So you get paid to collect and research medals and orders?!?!? Some people have it all!!! Paul How I wish! No such luck. Have just been trying to conjoin "job" and "hobby" in recent years. Not sure any one buys it, but 'tis fun.
Chris Boonzaier Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Sooooooo..... bit of water under the bridge... was reading this and wondering what answers had popped up ??
Ed_Haynes Posted November 28, 2006 Author Posted November 28, 2006 Well treated, in so far as any reliable information is available, in a forthcoming book on Indian medals.
Ulsterman Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 ...and said book has been promised for 2 years now! Any news on its arrival? i have a gap in my bookshelf awaiting its publishing.
Ed_Haynes Posted December 20, 2006 Author Posted December 20, 2006 Final proofs are in hand even as we speak. There has been much back-and-forth with the publisher to keep the quality HIGH.Said book has been being written for close to 25 years, and the gestation has been quite long in all stages.Soon . . . ?
Ed_Haynes Posted December 20, 2006 Author Posted December 20, 2006 ..baited breath here.... And here too, mate, here too. When concrete information is in hand and a pre-order is possible, I shall overcome hesitations regarding Shameless Capitalism and post a notice in ther appropriate forum nook.
kyokashinkai Posted January 1, 2007 Posted January 1, 2007 i have boxed azad hind medal , would like to post but cant upload pics , if anyone could post then i would be very greatfulbest wishes steve
Darrell English Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Looking to obtain Azad Hind items Thank Darrell English
Ed_Haynes Posted November 29, 2007 Author Posted November 29, 2007 So are we all, Darrell, so are we all. Finding restrikes isn't too very hard (Morton and Eden just had a set at auction), but original ones are very hard.
Ulsterman Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 ...any news on the book?Gosh-even the restrikes are expensive these days. Some wags over at the WAF are categorically stating that these were 'presented pieces" awarded into the 1960s etc.. Money corrupts everything-even history.
Ed_Haynes Posted November 29, 2007 Author Posted November 29, 2007 The publisher made an ABSOLUTE HASH of the ribbon charts. Fixed now. Grumble, kvetch.

I'd to see them!My interests, to be honest, lie with INDIANS in the Azad Hind Fauj, not with German "allies".
Michael Johnson Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 not with German "allies".Who were members of the Vanilla Fauj?

The Long service army medals were ALWAYS worn together-two together, except for the 4 year. Thus, you bar should have a 12 and a 4 medal on it. This was a regulation in place as of 1936. Not a few (esp. English) fakers don't know/didn't know this.Sorry-
arrestanddevelopment Posted December 13, 2007 Posted December 13, 2007 Some Azad Hind awards in my collection..best wishesSteve

Ed_Haynes Posted December 13, 2007 Author Posted December 13, 2007 I am consistently amazed at the massive body of mythology regarding this award that persists, especially among the Third-Reich collecting crowd.
