Stogieman Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 This lot was recently sold in Germany for 170- Euro. The quality looks a little bit off to me....
David S Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 The quality looks a little bit off to me....Just a little off . . . What is worse...the medal itself, or the fact that some nitwit paid E170 for it
Ed_Haynes Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 I'd agree "off". But, then, I have never handled The Real Thing . . . who has??A friend always promised to show me his, but never did.
Daniel Cole Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 That is a cast fake. But since you can't get even an unissued one here, I would have bought it to fill the spot in a project I'm doing. Why can't they just sell unissued versions with REPLICA stamped in the back?
Ed_Haynes Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 That is a cast fake. But since you can't get even an unissued one here, I would have bought it to fill the spot in a project I'm doing. Why can't they just sell unissued versions with REPLICA stamped in the back? Why can't the US just allow the sale of the real thing, rather than forcing them overseas? But, then, I have tried that argument on the OMSA leadership . . . Plop.
Kev in Deva Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 (edited) Hallo Gents, I was standing next to this example yesterday, 18th March 2008 M.O.H. 1904 Model, Romanian Military Museum. Not possible to "touchy - touchy - feely - feely" though Awarded in May 17th, 1923 on behalf of:The President of the USA and the American Congress, by aRepresentative of the U.S.A. and American Military Attache in Bucharest.to Commemorate the Romanian Unknown Soldier of World War 1.Kevin in Deva. Chris Boonzaier Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 I saw a couple of "Real" un-awarded pieces at Haiger. I think the ones that went out of the factory back door. Nothing like this !!
Naxos Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 For comparisonhttp://www.theodoreroosevelt.org/graphics/...0OF%20HONOR.jpg
Harrier Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 The Addison Baker MOH is a TERRIBLE fake. I have been fortunate enough to handle several of these, from all service branches, and no real one looks like this at all.
Stogieman Posted March 19, 2008 Author Posted March 19, 2008 As I said... the quality is a little off. In all my years I have seen only one (1) that IMO was authentic. It was a Civil War piece and being sold on a German website of all places...... It was north of 5K if I recall correctly. This one was just too funny to not point out to you guys!
JBeltram Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Hi Guys,So what do you folks think of this one? I know this one is good.Regards, Jody
A Collector Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Hi Guys,So what do you folks think of this one? I know this one is good.Regards,JodyDarn tootin its good, no doubt about that. However, the neck suspension appears to be much earlier than the medal itself which appears to be Vietnam War era.
Hendrik Posted May 15, 2008 Posted May 15, 2008 Hi Gents !And what about these ? Purchased in the Netherlands some years ago, all are unnamed.Cheers,Hendrik
Harrier Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 Are these some of the ones that "came out the back door" of HLP, Inc. 20 years ago? The U.S. Government was VERY upset when that happened. For a very short time, you could buy these at military shows for about $350, but then they disappeared.
Hendrik Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Are these some of the ones that "came out the back door" of HLP, Inc. 20 years ago?Hello Harrier,Wished I knew ... and that is why I posted the pictures : hoping someone can tell me whether they are just copies or did indeed come from the then manufacturer.Cheers,Hendrik

Originally, the finish was totally matte. These are modern, but original, MOH's. Best, Harrier
Kev in Deva Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Hallo Gents, just a quick question, do you know where its possible to locate a full size neck ribbonfor the WW1 MOH, its for a legitimate cause, as a replacement for a museum piece here in Romania.Or who to approach to source one officialy.Kevin in Deva.

I'd start with as formal a request to the US Military Attache at the Embassy as can be crafted. Edited May 18, 2008 by Ed_Haynes
Guest Rick Research Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 I agree. National professional courtesy at the highest possible level.
Kev in Deva Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Hallo Ed, and Ricky, thanks for that suggestion, I will see what I can find out by droping them a line.Kevin in Deva.
Hendrik Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 These do look like the ones that came out the back door. Many thanks Jody and Harrier for confirming my hopes !Cheers, Hendrik
ekclete Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 Here is a 'weak' picture of Richard Bong's Medal on Honor. The medal is housed in a full glass display case but you cant see the reverse of it for the inscription.
