Wonderfull clasps for those orders,

But I don't think that it was used widely as many vetrans wore their orders with swords together with the long service awarded orders.....

I have 2 groups in possession,

One with the knight Leopold II with swords, ?nd a gold medal of leopold II

The other with a knight leopold II with swords ?nd a silver medal of leopold II.

Finally I got an offer to buy the following stars and sash;

Grandofficer.

He was asking 550,- for this one.

Just the cross, no box or what so ever with it.

he only wanted to sell it as a set,

I would have loved to have those stars,

I'm currently looking for them ?nd the bronze medal of Leopold II and than is my collection of the order of Leopold II complete.

However his prices were, as far as I'm concerned, a bit too strong for me.

What are your opinions on those stars???

Could you point a manufacturer for those stars too?

So .... Will have to look further.....

Does anyone knows what the exact dimensions are of those stars and the grand-cross badge???

Those breaststars appear to be 8 cm by 8 cm.

So... Anyone has a breaststar and/or grandcross sash with badge??

The bronze medal is also very welcomed!

Here the last pictures of this particular commander in my collection,

It's waiting till the money is in my account and then will it fly fly fly to it's new owner.

I have bought a commander with swords, thus this one had to go... Can't afford to own multiple of every grade.

the scans are not too good, but hey.. not bad too..

They represent just what one wants to see.

A nice pre 1951 version of a beautifull order without the distracting clay plastered over the order,

like the order of the Crown and the order of Leopold I.

(they call it enamel, but I call it clay! I just like metal, plain metal)

Is it bronze or gold??

I instantly thought bronze (which is still missing in my collection)

But spotted a golden glance at the ball....

Now I'm hesitating...

That's a nice bronze one! I like it.

When bronze is new, it has a very shiny look, only when it breads a lot of air and sulphur in the air, it oxidizes and gets a patina just like silver and gets darker. You could clean it like a prowd soldier and make it shine like the bal of the suspention or let it like it is like most of the collectors do.

Yes indeed,

Bronze ones would be harder to come by than the silver or gold ones??

Olivier, do you know any ration between the gold/silver/bronze medals and the higher grades??

This one is also of less pump and circumstance, the leaves on the medal are less detailed and the ball looks quite cubic.

Might be because this is the lowest grade, thus for those on the lowest sport, or just a manufacturers plan to work them ou tthis way??

Wow and I though that a bronze one would be a lowley piece. Thanks for the kind words everyone I am missing the silver, then later this summer I hope to start filling some of the higher levels I think the "goldy part' would be from rubbing during wear.

Hello Laurence,

It is a lowly piece in so far as it's the lowest class in the order. But, it's also the rarest grade among the medals in that order. Those medals are awarded for long service according to hierarchy in the Belgian administration in its widest sense. Long service also normally means promotions during those years so a bronze medal would be for someone very low in the hierarchy, serving the whole time without any promotion entitling him/her to a higher class medal, a far rarer state of affairs than usual and thus making the bronze medal the rarer of the three grades.

Here, Both of my unilingual medals.

Gold & silvered bronze, but the silver shows some marks of wear.

But that's part of the game, someone proud wore them, polished them

and was proud of it!!
